Making it to the Hall of Rock nominees

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees were revealed on Thursday. The annual list includes some repeated names and welcomes some new ones.

Returning nominees include The Cars, Depeche Mode, LL Cool J, J. Geils Band, The Meters, Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, Link Wray, The Zombies, and MC5.

While the rock institution welcomes first time nominees such as Rage Against the Machine. Eurythmics, Bon Jovi, Radiohead, Judas Priest, Dire Straits, Kate Bush, The Moody Blues, Nina Simone, and Sister Rosetta Tharpe.

Radiohead‘s Thom Yorke demurred about what he thought about the Hall of Fame – “don’t ask me things like that. I always put my foot in my mouth.”

But Colin Greenwood thinks quite different and said.

“I’d be grateful if we got in. Look at the other people that have been inducted. I don’t know if everyone else will go through.”

To make it to the foundation’s nominees ballot, the artists have to have released their first album or single at least 25 years before.

The nominees are selected by the rock hall foundation’s nominating committee.

Factors such as an artist’s musical influence on other artists, length and depth of career and the body of work, innovation, and superiority in style and technique are taken into consideration according to the rock hall institution.

The top five acts selected will comprise a “fans’ ballot” that will make an impression along with those of the 800 artists, historians, and music industry professionals who make up the Rock Hall voting body.

The induction ceremony will be held at the Public Auditorium in Cleveland. Which is home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.

It will also be televised later on HBO and heard on SiriusXM Radio.

Shocking left out

One artist clearly missed out on this year’s nominees is Soundgarden. The Seattle rockers were among the pioneers of the grunge movement, even preceding Pearl Jam, which was inducted into the 2017 class.

On top of that, frontman Chris Cornell’s death earlier this year sparked many remembrances of the band and recognizing Cornell’s place as a founding father of grunge, as well as his remarkable vocal powerhouse.
