MET Gala: All The Best Dressed Of Fashion's IT Event

Fashion’s biggest night out finally arrived! The Met Gala honored Japanse designer Rei Kawakubo. The annual ball gathered celebrities and creatives on Monday.The night was full of fashion, creative looks, couples’ red carpet debuts and comebacks. Katy Perry co-chaired and co-hosted the event.

The pinnacle of iconic style

The Met Gala, formally known as the Costume Institue Gala and also as the Met Ball, is an annual fundraising gala held for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume in NYC. It marks the grand opening of the Costume Institue’s annual fashion exhibit.

Each year the event celebrates the theme of that year’s exhibit, which sets the tone for the formal dress of that night, and guests are expected to choose their fashion to match the theme.The Met Gala is held on the first Monday in May. The event is one of the most-watched fashion events of the year that gathers, celebrities and fashion industry personalities.

This year, the Gala honored Comme des Garçons’ designer Rei Kawakubo with an exhibition entitled “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between.”

To follow the tradition, Katy Perry was chosen as co-host and co-chair of the event. Recently, the singer wore several of Kawakubo’s design for the May issue of Vogue.The dress code called for an avant-garde black tie, and guests showed their most outrageous designs for the event.

The debuts, the missing and the trends

So, fashion’s most watched event took place on Monday and gathered regular celebrities such as the Kardashians, Anna Wintour, Rihana, Puff Diddy, and more.

Monday night also marked the absence of two regular guests of the iconic gala, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Beyonce. But it also marked a comeback. Gwyneth Paltrow wearing a pale Calvin Klein, ending a three-year hiatus.

Some of this year’s debutants included Migos, Australian actress Ruby Rose, Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone. The daughter of the pop king also made quite a debut, Paris Jackson, who recently signed up with a model agency and is now hanging with supermodel Kendall Jenner.

Halle Berry and Celine Dion both made their met gala debut last night. The Canadian singer had a blast enjoining every moment of the gala.Finally, the model Ashley Graham made her debut as a guest after years covering the gala.

The night also marked the debut of some couples, Joe Jonas and SophieTurner made their gala debut after a couple of month being spotted together. Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez also debuted on the red carpet.

But the most anticipated one was Selena Gomez and The Weeknd’s. Afters months dating and being spotted together all over the world, the duo finally made the sweetest debut on the red carpet in no less than the Met Gala.

However, the cutest debut was Serena William’s baby bump. So cute.

The dress code was avant-garde and numerous stars decided to take risks. For some, it was a profusion of feathers, most provided by Prada and Versace. To others was a risky proposal, showing thighs and bellies in cut-outs quite edgy.

Another trend was red which is an unofficial color of Comme des Garçons. Katy Perry made a stunning and edgy entry to the gala, and Emma Roberts also went for it.

Nude proved to be dead as backless looks took on the red carpet. Bella Hadid and made this point really clear with her Alexander Wang catsuit ready to run into her ex and his new girlfriend.

Women in pants said present at the gala and they were anything but gender blurring. Beautiful ensemble such as Emmy Rossum in Carolina Herrera was mindblowing and an ode to modern femininity.Voluminous ensembles proved to be quite a red carpet statement. Rihanna, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Solange Knowles went for it, and are considered the best-dressed of the night.

The best dressed included Katy Perry taking Comme des Helen Lasinchanh, Pharrell’s wife, in Comme des Garçons redness to a new level. Also, Rihanna in a fall 2016 runway Comme Des Garçons. Riri is one a winner when it comes to the Met Gala, she never misses the mark. Tracee Ellis Ross in a regal blue Comme des Garçon. Helen Lasinchanh, Pharrell’s wife, going for a really unexpected and daring look by Comme des Garçons. And Lily Collins who showed up with a daring and edgy pinky look by Comme des Helen Lasinchanh.

Solange Knowles also rocked the night out in Thom Browne, P. Diddy and wife Cassie in their black ensembles.Celine Dion made a debut worth waiting for in a sophisticated and sharp Versace. Zoe Kravitz delivered an unexpected look in an Oscar de la Renta pink dress.
