Meryl Streep Gave Moving Speech At The Golden Globes [VIDEO]

She Spoke The Truth, It Was So Moving.

Meryl Streep proved once more why she’s one of the biggest artists in Hollywood when she attended the Golden Globes on Sunday. The actress wasn’t there just to receive and award and thank her supporters, instead, she took the chance to give the audience and the country a reflective, deep, moving and truthful speech.

The iconic star Meryl was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award, the honorary title granted by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment”. In her acceptance speech, the 67-year-old expressed her biggest concern: Donald Trump as the elect president.

A very worried Meryl spoke from the heart.

About to burst into tears and with a voice tone you could barely hear, the actress apologized to the audience, she lost her voice from “screaming” on the weekend, when she continued with her statement we could understand the reason why.

Foreigners are the ones that make Hollywood.

Echoing the words of Hugh Laurie, Streep said that those who granted her the award along with the actors are “the most vilified segments in American society right now”. She mentioned several people that were born outside L.A including herself, Viola Davis who had the honor of giving her the acknowledgement, Ryan Gosling, Amy Adams and some other great interpreters “Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners, and if you kick us all out, you’ll have nothing to watch except for football and mixed martial arts, which are not arts,”  she told the attendants.

Donald Trump’s performance shocked her.

Meryl felt overwhelmed when the president-elect publicly mocked Serge Kovaleski, a disabled reporter from the New York Time’s after feeling attacked for one of his articles that made him look like the “bad guy”.  “There was nothing good about it, but it did its job….It kind of broke my heart when I saw it, and I still can’t get it out my head because it wasn’t in a movie; it was in real life.” the actress added.

Trump needs to set the example.

Her concern isn’t out of the blue, as the icon expressed, he’s about to be seated in the most honorable seat of the country “ That instinct to humiliate when it’s modeled by someone on a public platform, it filters down into everyone’s life because it gives permission for others to do the same.” she shared “Disrespect invites disrespect, violence incites violence, when the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose.” she continued.

Everyone felt touched by her words.

Meryl isn’t just a great actress, she moves people, she’s naturally talented. Every single people seated in that room felt moved when they heard her speech. Almost the entire crowd was captivated by it and applauding her for her wise words. Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn were an exception, the two conservatives were starring at Streep with a dead cold look, you could feel how uncomfortable those two were.

Streep closed the speech with a quote in tribute to a darling friend.

Filled with optimism Meryl said  “We need the principled press to hold power to account, to call them on the carpet for every outrage … We’re going to need them going forward and they’re going to need us to safeguard the truth,”  and to finish her statement she shared a quote by her dear friend Carrie Fisher who passed away just a few weeks ago  “As my friend, the dear departed Princess Leia, said to me once, ‘Take your broken heart, make it into art.’ “

Of course, Trump isn’t happy about the speech.

The president-elect took Twitter, as usual, to rant about Meryl, he called the multiple time’s award winner “overrated”.

But the world loved her speech.

Besides Donald Trump, people were thrilled with Meryl’s speech. Her costar Viola Davis shared some words after the speech “Her artistry reminds us of the impact of what it means to be an artist, which is to make us feel less alone, you make me proud to be an artist. You make me feel that what I have in me — my body, my face, my age — is enough.” Many other celebrities took social media to show some appreciation.

Thank you, Meryl!
