From Royals To Green Lights

Lorde came back from her musical hiatus and she delivered. The 20-year-old New Zealand singer released her new single and its official video on Thursday, and people are loving it.

After a two-year musical hiatus, Lorde came back with and energetic sound inspired by David Bowie. We really can’t get enough of it and can’t wait for the album to be out!

“Green Lights.”

The new single from Lorde’s sophomore album is quite poppy. The video shows her singing while wandering the city and looking as cool as ever. The video already has over 7 million views.

Coming back for good.

After teasing her fans for over a week with tweets of lyrics and green lights, Lorde finally released the single and graced us with a cool official video.

The video directed by Grant Singer follows Lorde walking and dancing- after all what would Lorde be without dancing- in the streets with a Walkman. The singer came back with a more mature image and a dancing sound.

Taking some time off to make quite a comeback.

“Green Lights” is part of Lorde’s second album called ‘Melodrama’. It’s Lorde’s new material since her collaboration with Disclosure back in 2015. She took some time off and went back to New Zealand to reconnect with herself.

She said, “I needed to just go away, go home to New Zealand, and hang out by myself and figure out what I was going to do next. I knew I couldn’t make the same thing again, and I had to figure out what it was that I wanted to say. And I’m so glad I took that time because this record is the coolest thing I’ve ever made.”

Her sophomore album, Melodrama.

Earlier this week Lorde revealed the record’s name via her website. Melodrama is inspired by a heartbreak and the two recent years of her life. She said, “I partied a lot and I felt all the feelings – and it was all so fluorescent. So I decided to call the album Melodrama.”

According to her, the album’s sound is really different to what we’re used to. Lorde presents a contradiction with really joyful and dancing songs and sad lyrics, presenting a complex duality and a more mature Lorde.

About moving on.

Via social media, Lorde expressed how proud and happy she’s not only for the new album but also for “Green Lights.” The song is pretty personal for her,  It’s the first chapter of a story I’m gonna tell you, the story of the last 2 wild, fluorescent years of my life. This is where we begin.”

The album was inspired by David Bowie. After her tribute to the singer at last year’s Brit Awards, the singer felt this urge to write, she said,  “I feel like the whole time spent writing this record, I’ve had him in my thoughts, I’ve had him in my heart.”

Melodrama has no release date yet but it’s expected for later this year. She’s headlining Governors Ball this summer. She’ll also be at Coachella next month.
