Nominee for Best Actor Casey Affleck has been under the heat lately. Since the news of the nomination was known, it became a controversial issue. In 2010, Affleck was accused of sexual harassment by two women that worked with him in the documentary ‘I’m Still Here.’
Last Sunday, when The Academy gave him the award for Best Actor, criticism via social media did not cease. Finally, in a new interview with the Boston Globe on Tuesday, Affleck decided to speak out about the sentiments.
An unexpected twist
Casey’s role was originally directed to Matt Damon, who resigned to star in the film ‘The Great Wall’, although Damon was still producing ‘Manchester By The Sea’. The actor came to this role almost by accident, after Kenneth Lonergan gave him the role as specified by Damon. In this way, Affleck achieved his best performance incarnating a man tormented and blinded by the pain.
Not everyone was excited
Affleck was aware that not everyone was excited about his 2017 Oscar triumph. The best example was Brie Larson, an outspoken advocate for sexual assault survivors, who refused to clap and appeared visibly unimpressed and downcast as she presented Affleck with the Oscar statuette.

After Casey was announced the winner, some viewers couldn’t help but express their disappointment. During the show, B.J. Novak tweeted “can we check Best Actor again.”
Another offensive comment was made by Constance Wu who added, “Boys! BUY ur way out of trouble by settling out of court! Just do a good acting job, that’s all that matters! bc Art isn’t about humanity, right?.”

The actor established his point
Casey told the world in a new interview with the Boston Globe that he believed that “any kind of mistreatment of anyone for any reason was unacceptable and abhorrent, and everyone deserves to be treated with respect in the workplace and anywhere else.”
The actor also added that there was really nothing he could do about it. Other than living his life the way he knew he had lived it and to speak to what his own values were and how he tried to live by them all the time.
