Apparently, Shrek Is Back With Its 5th Movie And It’ll Completely Reinvent The Series

‘It’s Not Ogre Yet’

Shrek is one of those movies that everyone loves and that many of us grew up with. The incredible idea of making fun of all the fairytales at once was a total hit. To the point that 3 other movies, spin-offs, a mini-Halloween series and even a Broadway musical have been created.

But it seems that the grumpy but adorable ogre will be back on the silver screen. As supposedly a 5th movie is in progress. But that’s not all as it seems it will redefine the whole series.

After ever after

It seems that Dreamworks doesn’t want to let go the Shrek saga. As screenwriter Michael McCullers, who worked on Austin Power, said he had just finished the script of the 5th chapter of the Shrek movies.

He said this in an interview to The Hollywood Reporter, taking advantage of the success of another animated movie he has worked on “Boss Baby.” Saying that he loves this new script and that it will take “Shrek” into a new turn, totally redefining it.

McCullers statements

“Shrek 5 is being developed. I finished that script, which I really, really, really love. It’s really personal to me. It’s got a pretty big reinvention behind it that I guess I can’t really reveal, but since DreamWorks was sold to Universal in that time for over $3 billion, I imagine they’re particularly interested in it stepping up and actually figuring out the future of the franchise in that way on the corporate level.

Reinvention was sort of called for. There’s been four movies and a lot of material, so the characters are pretty beloved and they’re great characters, but you also have to think of a pretty new take at that point.”

Fairytale coming

The presumed releasing date to the movie is 2019, even though there’s nothing official yet. As it seems that Dreamworks really want to revitalize the ogre franchise, as it’s still one of their main sources of income. Having really high hopes on Shrek turning its

We really hope that their bet works, as the last two movies of the saga didn’t get much praise. But despite all of that many of us still love all of their characters and it will be very interesting to see what’s the “reinvention” McCullers is talking about.
