This is the last call pitches
It feels like forever since the Bellas last graced our screens. While we’ve been anxiously waiting for updates on the third installment of the ‘Pitch Perfect’ movies. We’ve been feeding our thirst with teasers from the set and emotional photos of the cast during the last days of filming.
Now the Bellas are back, with a full trailer for ‘Pitch Perfect 3’. And it offers so much to be excited about. The trailer shows the acapella queens living their post-colleges lives, and let me tell you they’re really struggling to succeed.
The pals gather for drinks to talk about, well, life and realize how much they’re struggling. Luckily, Anna Camp returns in her original ‘Pitch Perfect’ capacity with a plan to perform again in an upcoming USO tour in Europe. Gathering all the Bellas for a comeback.
The twist? Their apparent competition comes complete with actual musical instruments, which is rather new for the Bellas. In fact, they discover they’re facing a whole new level of competition when they run into a group led by Ruby Rose at the airport.
Yep, the Ruby Rose participation on the film is finally unveiled as the very nemesis of the Barden Bellas.
The trailer also features some amazing action shots of Anna Kendrick accidentally skydiving and two of the other Bellas jumping from an exploding ship into the ocean. There’s also some action sponsored by Fat Amy fiercely fighting with kitchen supplies.
Can wait for some more trailers to be unveiled, but there’s a long way to run until December 22, when the movie is released!
How the third installment came to be
The third installment of ‘Pitch Perfect’ first started as a rumor. But then, director, star, and producer Elizabeth Banks acknowledged the possibility of the third film during the promotion of ‘Pitch Perfect 2’. She said, “I will say, it would be disingenuous to say that no one’s talking about a ‘Pitch Perfect 3’; the possibility of it. We are really focused on getting as many butts in seats for this one.”
The film was first announced in April 2015, just a month before the release of the second film. It was later confirmed on June 2015. The script was penned by Kay Cannon, who wrote the previous two installments, so get ready for the usual Bellas jokes and epic moments.
The franchise decided to hire another female director, Trish Sie of ‘Step Up fame’, to helm this installment. After Elizabeth Banks, decided to stick with her executive producing/acting responsibilities this time around.
‘Pitch Perfect 3’ brings back all our favorite characters from the previous sequels. The film will star Anna Kendrick, Anna Camp, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, Hailee Steinfeld, Alexis Knapp, Ester Dean, Hana Mee Lee, Chrissie Fit, Kelley Jakle and Shelley Regner. And let’s not forget about Elizabeth Banks and John Michael Higgins.
There are some new faces too, ‘Orange Is The New Black’ Ruby Rose as the nemesis, along with appearances of John Lithgow and DJ Khaled.
After initial release dates set for July 21 at August 4, ‘Pitch Perfect 3’ is scheduled to be released December 22. While is hard to say goodbye to the Barde Bellas, reports say that Rebel Wilson is up for a Fat Amy spin-off, and so are we! Official confirmation is still expected.
Pitch Perfect and the box office
‘Pitch Perfect 3’ is the third and final film in the ‘Pitch Perfect’ franchise. Following installments in 2012 and 2015. ‘Pitch Perfect 2’ grossed $285 million worldwide including $183 million domestically. The first ‘Pitch Perfect’ movie made over $115 million worldwide, including $65 million in North America.
‘Pitch Perfect joins the list of movie franchises that have come to an end this year, including ‘Logan’, ‘Transformers’and ‘Resident Evil’. The franchise has made quite well at the box-office, its second installment was a kind of “breakout sequel,” where it made more on opening weekend ($69.2 million) as the original made in total ($65m) three years prior.
This success puts it in a rare club alongside ‘Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me’ and ‘Terminator 2: Judgment Day’. But there are plenty of breakout sequels that merely do really, really well compared to their predecessors including ‘John Wick: Chapter 2’ and ‘The Dark Knight’.
However, according to reports the film might still qualify as a moderate but without getting the same huge success of the previous installments. Which has happened before in franchises such as the ‘Fockers’ and ‘The Hangover.’
Universal/Comcast Corp. is opening this over Christmas because they are betting on a smaller opening weekend but much longer legs, even as it faces off against ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ and ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’, which are considerable contestants.
