Comedian Seth Meyers is slated to host the Golden Globe Awards Ceremony on January 7, 2018. Meyers takes on Jimmy Fallon’s last year hosting the ceremony. This would mark the second consecutive year a ‘Saturday Night Live’ alum hosts the event.
The nominations for the 75th Golden Globe Awards will be unveiled on December 11th. The event will be broadcasted live on NBC in January.
Landing the Golden Globe hosting
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the group that puts on the annual TV and movie awards show, announced on Thursday that Seth Meyers is hosting the upcoming event.
“The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is excited to have Seth Meyers host the 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards,” said HFPA president, Meher Tatna.
“With his natural comedic wit and innate ability to charm audiences. Seth will help us carry on the celebratory tradition of recognizing the best in television and film at the Party of the Year,” Tatna added.
The announcement follows Stephen Colbert‘s hosting gig at the Primetime Emmy Awards a few months ago. Also, Jimmy Kimmel‘s hosting gig at the Oscars earlier this year.
Meyers nabbed the hosting gig opportunity after gaining critical acclaim for is political coverage on his show with ‘A Closer Look’ segment, which often tackles President Trump’s Administration.
The host has become one of the most vocal critics of Trump, and there’s a good chance he will talk about politics or make fun of the President at the event.
Meyers is back
This isn’t Meyers first rodeo hosting an award ceremony, he ha hosted the ESPY Awards in 2010 and 2011, and also headlined the 2014 Primetime Emmys.
Last year, the Golden Globe Awards were hosted by ‘Tonight Show’ frontman Jimmy Fallon, who delivered quite a musical event. Both Jimmy and Meyers are both ‘Saturday Night Live’ alums, with Meyers writing for over 12 years for the show.
Other previous hosts include Ricky Gervais who hosted the awards from 2010 to 2012 and once again in 2016. And Tina Fey and Amy Poehler from 2013 to 2015.
The nominations for the 75th Golden Globe Awards will be announced on December 11. Also, the two-hour Golden Globe anniversary special airs on December 13, with ‘Will and Grace’, stars Debra Messing and Eric McCormack hosting.

‘A Closer Look’
On Wednesday’s ‘Late Night’, host Seth Meyers got in the holiday spirit and used the ‘A Closer Look’ segment to express som thanks.
Meyers thanked the likes of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Trump advisor and son-in-law Jared Kushner, and Trump son Donald Jr.
While this might sound extremely generous, Meyers was really thankful the ongoing evidence of the complete and potentially indictment-worthy incompetence of seemingly everyone allegedly involved with the Trump campaign’s collusion with Vladimir Putin’s Russia.
Last week, Jeff Sessions claimed not to recall essentially anything about the now well-documented Russian communications. He’s been caught lying about under oath.
And, the comedian threw some jabs at it and the Administration as well. Meyers suggested that the excuse “Literally, we were too incompetent to collude” might not play.
He then moved on to Trump’s son in law, Justin Kushner, and his failure to disclose contacts with both Russia and Wikileaks. And of course, Don Jr.’s messages to Wikileaks using a private email server.
“It’s so amazing that these two are the ones who fell ass-backward into a potential criminal conspiracy,” joked Meyers about these two Trump family members inexplicably placed in positions of power.
In a less critical note, Meyers also imagined the Trumps spending their first Thanksgiving at the White House. Trump was leading the Pilgrims.
The Rock’s daughter announced the Golden Globe ambassador
The Rock is sharing the star spotlight with his daughter, as she’s announced the Golden Globe ambassador for the 2018 ceremony.
Simone Garcia Johnson is the daughter of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Dany Garcia, chairwoman of Seven Bucks Productions.
She recently signed a modeling deal with IMG. She has now been selected as the 2018 Golden Globe Ambassador. Which was formerly known as Miss Golden Globe, for the awards show.
“I’ve been lucky enough to grow up in a household with strong role models,” Garcia said as the gig was announced.
In case you’re wondering what the Golden Globe Ambassador is all about, is an honorary position. It involves assisting during the presentations. Which as we all know might also mean heroically saving the day should anything go wrong during the show.
Previous honorees have included daughters of other notorious Hollywood actors such as; Sophia, Sistine, and Scarlet Stallone, daughters of Sylvester Stallone; Corinne Foxx, daughter of Jamie Foxx; Sosie Bacon, daughter of Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick and Francesca Eastwood, daughter of Clint Eastwood and Frances Fisher.
Simone Garcia Johnson’s announced for the gig pretty much cements her father’s position as one of the most powerful men in entertainment. The Rock was announced the second best-paid actor in Hollywood, with $65 million.
