Green Day Trashes Trump Once Again In Their New Music Video

Talk About Expressing Yourself Through Music.

Way to go Green Day!

Art has always been a way to express people’s feelings. Especially towards their realities and circumstances. Also during modern times, music has been the predominant artistic way to express those feelings. As many will remember Woodstock and the hippie movement.

One of the genres of music that particularly has a political and critical sense is punk rock. Since they constantly critic the rotten things about society, and what more rotten than politics. Adding cynic lyrics and fast tempos to it as a way of protest.

Troubled Times

One of the punk rock bands that has been doing some serious criticizing is Green Day. They’ve been doing this for a while, having a great success with American Idiot. But now they’ve bash against their newest enemy in the video for Troubled Times.

Love to hate.

The video of the song was released today, on Martin Luther King Jr.’s day. In an ironic way of protest and to honor the civil right activist . As lead singer, Billy Joel has said: “Today we celebrate love and compassion more than ever.” But as the song clearly states we found ourselves in “Troubled Times.”

Nevermind the Bullocks.

In the video, we clearly see images of important history moments and protests. Some are women’s suffrage movements, the Civil Rights Movement, and even Martin Luther King’s rights fight. Who are not only counterposed with some of today’s most horrific things but also sent to the “human’s memory” trash. As even the song says, we forgeting about history and not learning from it.

Punkt subtlety.

In the horrendous moments and images in the video, we appreciate a very alike Trump monster. Or at least a fan since it has a “make America Great Again” cap. We know the guys from the band are not big fans of the next U.S. president. Not only from the speeches the band has said, but also for their iconic presentation in the American Music Awards.

All trash.

Through rough images, Green Day shows us, that certain things intoxicate our modern days, such as: Some KKK rallies, Nazism, racism, Martin Luther King crying, Trump racist slogans, and our personal favorite a monster who’s teeth are KKK members.

Punk style.

The video not only causes a bit of shock and reflection in the expectator. It’s also done in the collage, reckless, high impact but artistic way that has been used in many pieces of punk art. From posters to cd covers. A thing that any lover of this genre or art would appreciate a lot.

It’s all about the irony.

The song lyrics are pretty clear and might scare us a bit due to the uncertainty of the future. As the world seems pretty black at the moment. But to draw a smile on us Green Day uses tons of ironic images. Like vote sheets that become razor blades. That between all the negativity leave us the option of laughing at chaos.

Writting riot.

As the music of the guys of Green Day fades out we not only appreciate the writing ability of Billy Joel Armstrong. With lines that not only make you wonder about the future but also have an incredible depth. For example: “what good is love and peace on earth?/When it’s exclusive/ Where’s the truth in the written word?/If no one reads it”. This doesn’t only make us feel a little hope, as this mass movers are worried about the sake of the world. But also leave us the feel that we should act if we feel something is wrong and do a change, instead of simply complain.
