Starlin K. Brown making history on the Golden Globes

The star of “This Is Us” Sterling K. Brown that night became the first man of color to win the award for best performance of an actor in a television series drama. While giving his acceptance speech, Brown acknowledged and thanked the creator of “This Is Us” named Dan Fogelman for writing this very authentic character.

“For most of my career, I’ve benefited from the color-blind casting. Which means, ‘Hey, we’re going to throw a brother in this role. That’s always great,'” he said. “But Dan Fogelman, you wrote a paper for a black man that can only be played by a black man. So what I appreciate a lot about this is that they see me as I am. They appreciate me for what I am. It makes it much harder to fire me or fire someone who looks like me.”

The actors who have been nominated in this category in the past are: Wentworth Miller for “Prison Break” in 2006, James Earl Jones for “Gabriel’s Fire” in 1991 and “Pros and Cons ” in 1992 and finally to Philip Michael Tomas for the so famous series “Miami Vice” in 1986. This past Sunday night was Brown’s first victory at the Golden Globes. Even though he had previously been nominated for his work in the FX miniseries “The People V. O.J Simpson.”
