None other than Cynthia Nixon, the former star of the “Sex and the City” show, ran for governor of the big apple! Who’d say? To become iconic New York City with the series most acclaimed by women and now represents us in style with this position to candidacy, all a pride.
After leaving us in doubt for a few months, Nixon tweeted yesterday, saying she would challenge Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the New York Democratic primary this coming September.
This offers a long-range offer that confronts an openly gay liberal activist, who has never held a political post vs. a two-term headline counter with a $ 30 million war chest and well-defined ambitions.
Struggle in the big apple
On her campaign website, Nixon claimed she will not accept any type of corporate contribution. Nixon will limit the contributions of any person or organization from $65 to $100 for these elections.
“We want our government to work again, on health care, ending mass incarceration, fixing our broken subway,” Nixon said in a video announcing her candidacy. “We are fed up with politicians who care more about the incumbents and the power than about us.”
Siena College published a survey in which Cuomo led above Nixon with 66% lead to 19%.
Empowered woman!
Nixon is the living example of the woman of today. She’s a mother of three children raised in Manhattan. Nixon is also a faithful defender for a long time of impartiality in the financing of public schools. She also supports the Democratic mayor of the city of New York, Bill de Blasio. On several occasions has clashed with Cuomo, discussing different issues. Cuomo, who is 60 years old, recently mocked the status that the celebrity could have in this fight.
“Usually the name recognition is relevant when it has some connection to the effort,” Cuomo said earlier this month. “If it were name recognition, then I hope that Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, and Billy Joel do not participate in the race.”
