Zayn Malik opened up about his former band partners earlier this week. In an interview with Billboard, the singer talked about his current relationship with the One Direction lads.
Zayn also discussed his creative expression which took a different direction since he left the band. Also, about his relationship with girlfriend Gigi Hadid.
Not talking anymore
Zayn Malik features Billboard magazine’s recent issue. In the cover story, he opened up for the first time about his former bandmates, One Direction.
“Our relationships have definitely changed since we were in a band together. I think that’s just life,” he said explaining that even though he’s not in touch with any of them, he doesn’t attribute that to bad blood
“Everybody grows up; two of the guys have got kids now. But no, I don’t talk to any of them, really.”
Last year, Zayn told NME that he tried to reach them but they didn’t do the same.
“I’m still probably the closest to Liam,” he added.
“We talk on the phone. He congratulated me on my single [“Pillowtalk”], which was nice. I congratulated him on his Brit Award. It was a good chat.”
Now that he’s flying solo, Zayn has shown quite a different creative direction and he’s happy about it.
“I don’t do things that I wouldn’t buy into. I try to explain that to people and hope that they understand,” he told Billboard.
“It doesn’t come from a place of being arrogant or above anything.”
The singer is currently putting the finishing touches on his second record, having revealed in September that it is coming in ‘the next couple months’.
The secret to their relationship: a calendar
Zayn also opened up about his high profile relationship with model Gigi Hadid. The pair has been together since 2015. While the power duo is pretty busy with their careers, they make a priority seeing each other.
“It’s actually not that hard for us [to line up schedules],” he says as he reveals Gigi is in charge of the calendars.
“It helps that she’s really organized. Thank God! Because I’m really not, so she helps organize my schedule around seeing her!”
He also revealed Gigi is actually one of the few people who gets to hear his music while it’s being written.
“She’s in the studio quite a lot. She likes to cook for me and stuff — when I’m here late, she’ll come down and bring me food. She’s cool.”
