Drake Smashes The 2017 Billboard Music Awards After Winning 13 Awards

Drake Is Oficially The King Of The Billboards

It was a huge night for Drake at the Billboard Music Awards 2017 on Sunday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, as he won 13 awards, breaking a new record.

The Canadian singer walked into the show with 22 nominations and went home with 13 awards. That surpasses the record set by Adele in 2012 when she won 12 awards for her successful album ‘21.’ This comes as no surprise as he spent last year breaking streaming records over and over again, thanks to the massive success of his album ‘Views’ and the monster single “One Dance” featuring Wiz Kid and Kyla.

Electronic duo The Chainsmokers also got 22 nominations, winning 4 of them. Other top nominees included Twenty One Pilots, Rihanna, the Weeknd, and Beyonce, who took home the award for Top Female Artist, among others.

After earning 10 early awards, Drake was awarded Top Artist, Top Male Artist, and Top Billboard 200 Album for ‘Views.’ Other awards include Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Song Sales Artist, Top Streaming Songs Artist, Top Rap Artist, and much more.

In his acceptance speech for Top Billboard 200 Album, Drizzy took the mic to address co-hosts Vanessa Hudgens and Ludacris, along with Nicki Minaj. He tried to settle his long-standing beef with the rapper from Atlanta saying, “Ludacris, we haven’t always seen eye to eye, but I’ve always been a big fan of yours and I got a lot of love for you.”

That was right after he told Minaj, “I’m so glad we found our way back because I love you” and tossed a compliment to Hudgens – who reportedly changed her outfit eight different times throughout the night –, and got a hilarious reaction from Minaj back.

The ‘More Life’ creator also did a groundbreaking performance of “Gyalchester,” live from the famous Bellagio fountains. Flames and fireworks in the middle of sprays of water were more than enough to make of it an unforgettable show.

In a rough competition, Drake won Top Artist over some A-listers

The big win of the night for Top Artist went to Drake after beating out Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Adele, Ariana Grande, the Weeknd, Twenty One Pilots, Shawn Mendes and the Chainsmokers. Of those nominees, only Drake and the Chainsmokers attended the ceremony – as almost everyone is currently on tour, and Beyoncé is, well, more pregnant than ever.

The award was presented to Drake by Prince Jackson, the late Michael Jackson’s eldest son, and the rapper offered a very nice acceptance speech.

“I got my whole family up here, look at my dad looking all sharp!” he began saying as he stood onstage with at least 15 other people, including his father, Lil Wayne, and Minaj.

“I got the man that’s responsible for me being here,” he said, referring to Wayne, and continued saying, “I got the love of my life, too,” obviously talking about no other than Minaj, who stood very close to him.

He closed his speech with the most real – and funniest – moment of the night, saying, “Someone wise once told me, life is like toilet paper. You’re either on a roll or you’re taking sh** from an a**h***.”

Pure Drizzy wisdom.
