A low-speed accident took the life of Joi ‘SJ’ Harris’ a stunt actress on the set of Deadpool 2 on August 15.
After Harris’ death, the cast and crew honored her with kind words on social media, and an extensive investigation was ordered. The movie has just resumed shooting, after two days of mourning.
A terrible low-speed accident took Harris life
The investigation is being led by WorkSafeBC, British Columbia’s version of the US government’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
A report of the preliminary investigation into Harris’ death suggests that the stunt might not have been all that difficult and that her death was the result of a freak low-speed accident.
“The worker had been rehearsing a stunt scene that involved driving a motorcycle, out of the open doors of a building, across a concrete pad and down a ramp that had been built over three stairs and coming to a stop on the stair landing,” read the report.
“The motorcycle struck the concrete sidewalk curb, the worker was thrown off the motorcycle and propelled through a plate glass window of a building.”
Harris was in costume as Beetz’s ‘Deadpool‘ movie sequel character Domino when she when lost control of her motorcycle and crashed through the glass of a ground-floor. The bike reportedly never went over speeds of 15 kilometers an hour.
According to witnesses “the rider was standing on the bike, slams into the building, clearly hit and out-of-control and clearly not planned”.
Production on the film was immediately halted for 48 hours following the crash. Cast and crew took to social media to pay tribute to Harris. Including Ryan Reynolds’ heartfelt words, and Zazie Beetz‘ handwritten letter.
When filming did resume cast and crew observed a minutes silence in memory of Harris.
Resuming filming
‘Deadpool 2‘ continues filming in Vancouver for a June 2018 release. New videos from the sets, featuring Deadpool and Cable shooting action scenes, have been leaked online.
Several local news outlets and fans who were present, shared videos of Cable, leaping onto a vehicle, and Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds, scooting along on a Vespa. Ryan Reynolds has been providing frequent updates to fans on social media.
Last week, he unveiled the first look at Josh Brolin’s time-traveling killing machine, Cable, in two pictures. He also shared a tongue-in-cheek image of Zazie Beetz’s Domino a few weeks prior to that.
Directed by David Leitch, whose new film ‘Atomic Blonde‘ was a hit, ‘Deadpool 2′ also stars Zazie Beetz, Morena Baccarin, and TJ Miller.
