Blake Shelton was announced People’s Sexiest Man Alive earlier this week. The country singer is celebrating his new title as he opens up about his life on the magazine’s special double issue.

While some celebrated this year’s election, others took to social media to express their confusion over the choice. As for Blake, he’s living the dream.

The Sexiest Man Alive

Country singer Blake Shelton was named Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine, a first for any country singer, and he’s letting everybody know about it.

The Oklahoma native spent a decade in country music before his popularity surged in 2011 as the wise-cracking judge and mentor to aspiring singers on NBC’s reality talent competition ‘The Voice.’

“I’ve been ugly my whole life, if I can be sexy for a year, I’m taking it!” said Shelton in a statement on Tuesday.

In the magazine’s special double edition, the singer went candid about his relationship with former ‘The Voice’ mentor Gwen Stefani.

“What’s most important to Gwen is somebody who has her back and is a best friend, so that’s kind of how it started, and it just kept snowballing into what it is now, and it just feels like it gets stronger all the time, you know? ” he gushed.

The pair has been dating since 2015, and are currently living together. He recently gave her the cutest surprise birthday party.

While he explained his girlfriend encouraged him to accept the title, he wasn’t shy to reveal another key element to accepting the title.

He can’t wait to rub it on Adam Levine’s face

According to Shelton, he could not wait to tease his friend and fellow ‘Voice’ judge Adam Levine with his Sexiest Man title, which Levine had previously won in 2013.

“I’m not going to treat this like Hugh Jackman or one of those guys who are humble about it. People are going to hate me over this.”

“Because it’s going to be used in every conversation, whether it’s at ‘The Voice’ or at the feed store in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, or in a conversation with a doctor,” he added.

“Until I have to hand the title, which is what it is to me, over to someone else, this is mine. This is a certification.”

He’s certainly taking the best of it.

Previous title holders include Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Johnny Depp, Harrison Ford, Ryan Reynolds and David Beckham.

 Tongue in cheek announcement

Following People’s announcement, Shelton took to social media to make it official with a string of tongue-in-cheek tweets that include the hashtag #donthatemebecauseimbeautiful. He also bragged about getting his own emoji.

And reactions to the news have been endless and priceless. Some celebrated the choice, including Shelton’s girlfriend, Gwen Stefani, wrote that she already knew she was dating the Sexiest Man Alive. And has been also getting the best of the title with several tweets.

Former 2008 Sexiest Man Alive Hugh Jackman gave Shelton some advice. “Take it from me,” he wrote, “humble only gets you so far. Milk the sexy status for ALL it’s worth.”

Not everyone was celebrating People’s decision. Luke Bryan, Shelton’s colleague, who jokes that he was robbed.

“He’s taken so many things from me, and now this,” said Bryan.

“Who in the hell is choosing this? Am I being punked? And we’re sure that Y’all didn’t Photoshop my face over his face and change the names out?”

Finally, Bryan conceded, “Alright, well I guess we’re all stuck with it.”

Comedian Desus Nice from Viceland joked that Papa John should have won the title.

And other Twitter users who have been looking for the responsible for this “confusing choice”. Options include death, the electoral college and so on.

 

Other Sexy men in this year’s issue

While Shelton was named the sexiest man alive, the magazine announced other sexy men to feature in the special annual edition.

Some of the names are  Zac Efron, Luis Fonsi, Armie Hammer, and 50 Cent, who feature in several categories.

While they’re all head-turners, People selected three stars to highlight — the show’s trio of leading men — for their special annual issue.

The magazine named the Pearson men of NBC’s ‘This is Us’ as sexiest cast, which includes Sterling K. Brown, who plays Randall; Milo Ventimiglia, who plays Jack; and Justin Hartley, who plays Kevin.

“I think being sexy is just being comfortable on your skin, and these two cats are very comfortable in their skin,” Brown said of his co-stars.

Ventimiglia said that he believes humor, confidence, and kindness are key. Oh, and “stubble.”

As for Hartley, he agreed and deadpanned, “Stubble and forgiveness, that’s my mantra.

The trio joked during the photo shoot for the issue.

“We just try to be as sexy as possible,” Brown said when they gathered for a photo shoot.

“Sterl, you don’t need to try, man. You just are,” Ventimiglia shot back.
