TV Renewals And Cancellations Of 2017: Check Out Who Made It And Who’s Out

Check Out The Decisions Made By The Broadcast Networks Of Our Favorite Shows

With the broadcast upfronts less than a week away, networks are already setting the lineups for the 2017-18 season. Just imagine a bunch of executives from the main broadcast networks, sitting on a large table deciding what you’ll be watching on TV for the next year, which shows are getting another year and which ones have had enough.

Almost at the finish lines, networks such as CBS and The CW have already announced most of their renewals. Rival networks are still making final decisions about which pilots will make the cut, but are sure about the hits that deserve a renewal and the fiasco shows that will be canceled.

The five broadcast networks have been discussing the next season’s schedules

NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt talked about how the network will not do “one of those crazy, throw-a-bunch-of-things-against-the-wall pilot seasons.” For now, only 12 pilots are in contention for next year. That’s half the usual number.

CBS has already done the most important chore on the list: secure a two-year renewal for ‘The Big Bang Theory’, which is TV’s most-watched entertainment series, and the responsible for ratings boost to Kevin Can Wait and Superior Donuts. What’s left to do for the network is decide which pilots will get the post-Big Bang Theory privileged spot.

Fox has too secured its golden stars, The X-Files, with another 10-episode season, and Seth MacFarlane’s sci-fi series ‘The Orville.’ Chairman and CEO of Fox Television Group Gary Newman said the focus for this season is adding new shows to the schedule. “We have some very strong pilot contenders on both the comedy and drama side.”

For ABC Entertainment president, Channing Dungey, the network’s comedy brand is good, but she wants to broaden the portfolio of drama – which until now has consisted basically on tense stories like ‘Notorious,’ ‘Conviction’ and ‘Time After Time’ –, adding “lighter shows” like ‘Desperate Housewives’ or ‘Ugly Betty.’

CW is considering pilots like ‘Dynasty’ or ‘Black Lightning,’

the fifth DC Comics series, as well if ‘Frequency’ and ‘No Tomorrow’ did well enough to get a renewal. The network’s partnership with Netflix has been positive. Shows migrate to the streaming service just eight days after their season finales. President Mark Pedowitz said that it’s convenient to get an idea of how audience acts.
