Lorde took Twitter on Monday, to apologize for a remark she made, that some consider insensitive. In a recent interview, the singer described her friendship with pop star Taylor Swift as “having a friend with very specific allergies.”

Four years after her breakout debut at 16, Lorde’s back with her second album Melodrama which finally emerged on Friday. Surrounding the much-anticipated release, she’s opened up to several magazines and has made her fair share of appearances on shows.
Her press tour includes an interview with The Guardian on Saturday. The New Zeland singer discussed topics such as maturing in the spotlight, as well as her relationship with other famous people, like pop phenom Taylor Swift.
“It’s like having a friend with very specific allergies. There are certain places you can’t go together. Certain things you can’t do,” she said. “There are these different sets of considerations within the friendship. It’s like having a friend with an autoimmune disease,” the singer continued explaining to The Guardian.
However, the singer was called out on Twitter by Stephanie Marie, an editor with the Australian diverse-sexuality website SBS Sexuality. Who wrote on Monday, “I wonder how @selenagomez [who has been diagnosed with lupus] feels about this. What an incredibly ignorant analogy to make @lorde.”
Selena was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease in 2014, and last year canceled her tour indefinitely under doctors advice. Lorde apologized via Twitter for her words choice. However, some people have praised her for her analogy, because we do get the idea.

However, Lorde and Tay Tay are pretty close
Lorde and Taylor have been close friends for years. The pair began their relationship when Lorde rose to stardom a few years ago and they’re pretty tight. We’ve seen them dancing in award shows and hanging out in Starbucks. Lorde was even part of Taylor’s 1989 Wolrd Tour in 2015. In fact, last November, the “Bad Blood” singer even threw a star-studded birthday party for her pal. And the singer also praised Lorde’s comeback track “Green Light” via Instagram.
Even when some consider Lorde‘s word choice insensitive, Swift probably got what her friend was trying to say. I mean, these two got the analogies thing covered. In September 2014, Swift told Rolling Stone that her friendship with Lorde, whom she calls Ella, was “like this blazing bonfire.” She added, “You can either be afraid of it because it’s so powerful and strong, or you can go stand near it, because it’s fun and it makes you brighter.”
In other news, Lorde will kick off her world tour this fall, taking her Melodrama to the world.
