Jimmy Fallon burst into tears with Taylor Swift performance on Monday. The late-night host and the singer shared a candid hug following Swift’s ‘New Year’s Day’ performance on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.’
Tuesday episode of the show was less emotional but revealed big news for the show. Obviously, Jimmy broke the news in the funniest way, and in case you’re wondering it’s related to the Super Bowl.
Jimmy and Taylor shared an emotional and heartfelt moment
Taylor Swift took to the ‘Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon’ stage to perform her new track ‘New Year’s Day’ on Monday night, and surprised fans with an old-Taylor presentation. The singer delivered a piano rendition of the song on the show, and suddenly cameras showed host Jimmy Fallon shedding some tears. The pair then shared an emotional hug.
Following the show, a producer for the show, Mike DiCenzo, took to Twitter to explain the emotional night.DiCenzo explained that Taylor wasn’t originally booked to perform on Monday, which marked Jimmy’s return after losing his mom, Gloria, on November 4.
Since it was Jimmy’s return, the team wanted to make something special and called Swift to perform, and she gladly accepted. It turned out being even more special that they aimed to, which is awesome.
Jimmy kicked off the night with a touching monologue about his mother, in which he recalled how she used to “squeeze my hand three times.”Last week, I was in the hospital and I grabbed her hand and squeezed ‘I love you.’ I just knew we were in trouble,” he continued recalling Gloria.
So when Taylor Swift took to the stage to sing the coincidental lyrics, which were new to the production team and Jimmy, “You squeeze my hand three times in the back of the taxi;”Jimmy and the whole studio burst into tears. DiCenzo wraps up the description of the emotional life praising Swift for her performance.
“Whatever you think of Taylor, she did something beautiful for Jimmy and our show today, and we’re forever grateful.”
I could see Jimmy silhouetted at his desk dabbing his eyes with a tissue. We all lost it. It was a beautiful coincidence in a beautiful performance. "Hold on to your memories, they will hold on to you," Taylor sang.
