Condolences to the Fallon family

Jimmy Fallon‘s mother, Gloria, passed away at a hospital in New York City on Saturday. She was surrounded by friends and family, including Jimmy. The sad news comes just a day after Jimmy canceled the Friday taping of ‘The Tonight Show‘ due to a “private family matter.” It was previously reported that Gloria was ill and admitted to a hospital.

“Jimmy was at his mother’s bedside, along with her loved ones, when she passed away at NYU Langone Medical Center in NYC. Our prayers go out to Jimmy and his family as they go through this tough time,” read the Fallon family statement.

Gloria attended Jimmy’s first night as presenter of the iconic talk show in 2014, and Jimmy often talks about her in a segment of the show called #MomQuotes.

My mom and I were talking on the phone for the third time that day and she actually said, ‘We don’t talk enough.”

While Jimmy‘s been quite private with personal matters and his family life, he has expressed how tight he was with his mother.  He has also shared sweet moments with her and funny stories. In June, he revealed to Howard Stern that his mother used to be a nun.
