Jimmy Fallon’s mother, Gloria, died on Saturday at the age of 68. The comedian confirmed the sad news on Sunday via a statement. Following the news, the comedian canceled the taping of this week’s episodes of ‘The Tonight Sow staring Jimmy Fallon’ in order to mourn his loss.
Condolences to the Fallon family
Jimmy Fallon‘s mother, Gloria, passed away at a hospital in New York City on Saturday. She was surrounded by friends and family, including Jimmy. The sad news comes just a day after Jimmy canceled the Friday taping of ‘The Tonight Show‘ due to a “private family matter.” It was previously reported that Gloria was ill and admitted to a hospital.
“Jimmy was at his mother’s bedside, along with her loved ones, when she passed away at NYU Langone Medical Center in NYC. Our prayers go out to Jimmy and his family as they go through this tough time,” read the Fallon family statement.
Gloria attended Jimmy’s first night as presenter of the iconic talk show in 2014, and Jimmy often talks about her in a segment of the show called #MomQuotes.
“My mom and I were talking on the phone for the third time that day and she actually said, ‘We don’t talk enough.”
While Jimmy‘s been quite private with personal matters and his family life, he has expressed how tight he was with his mother. He has also shared sweet moments with her and funny stories. In June, he revealed to Howard Stern that his mother used to be a nun.
Taking time to mourn his loss
Following the sad news, ‘The Tonight Show’ decided to cancel this week’s scheduled tapings. The Nov. 6-10 episodes will be substituted with repeats during this hiatus.
“On behalf of everyone at NBC, we extend our deepest condolences to Jimmy and all his family at this time of enormous loss,” said the network in a statement. “Our hearts go out to Jimmy and everyone else whose lives were so touched by Gloria Fallon’s love, kindness, and support.”
Fallon took over as host of the iconic late night talk show in 2014 following a successful stint as host of ‘Late Night With Jimmy Fallon’ which ran from 2009 to 2014. Comedian Jay Leno was previously the host of the late-night talk show.Aside from NBC, a number of his celebrity friends reached out to Fallon to show their support to the host.
Mom is the first audience and the best. Remembering Jimmy Fallon and his family in our prayers today.
