2017 seems to be a year of changes. In every aspect, humanity has faced the reality that beauty is, “be who you are” and not become anyone else. That’s the example we have been able to see in the fashion industry from runways to campaigns. There is diversity everywhere.
Last year, the New Zealand based brand Lonely Label launched a campaign which made us rejoice. It’s filled with body-positive lingerie ads. So they wanted to keep that awesome initiative and now they are hammering home that message. They recruited 56-year-old model Mercy Brewer for their new campaign.
Beauty has been always in front of our noses.
Mercy Brewer is the 56 year-old model that was chosen to be the new face of Lonely Label campaign. This exotic woman started modeling in London. Since 1984 she has been playing an active role in the UK’s punk scene while living in squats with Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell.
“Perceptions of beauty have and always will change, therefore I think we can conclude its standard is not set in stone, and new beauty is always waiting to be discovered,” Brewer claimed.
Lonely Label’s Initiative.
This brand embraces the idea that lingerie is for everyone, not just 20-somethings models are able to wear it. Lonely said they wanted to create images that “celebrate the beauty of growing older”. So they arranged the campaign to be so. They photoshoot took place in New Zealand, at Mercy’s home. They wanted to capture who she’s and not just what she looks like.
No matter what Fashion industry may say.
It’s known that the beauty and fashion industries are obsessed with youth, but the reality is we are all aging. Lonely knows that in the world are so many types of beauty and they want to show the world that is important to accept and enjoy who we are. The brand feels “there are so many wonderful things about growing older,” so they want to show that through its new campaign.
Helene Morris, the co-founder and designer of Lonely expressed that her brand feels that “it is important to challenge what we see in our media with a more authentic reflection of beauty and hope to grow people’s visual vocabulary.”
