Tom Hardy Will Portray Venom In New Spider-Man SpinOff

We Will Finally See Some Hardy Power On Marvel

Venom is one of the most powerful and evil villains that there are around. He also is one of the coolest ones. Now Tom Hardy will play Venom, Spiderman’s antithesis and probably one of the most dangerous bad guys around. The British 39-years old actor has been unveiled as the next Eddie Brock: the freelance photographer who becomes infected by an alien lifeform Symbiote that needs a host in order to survive.

This means there will obviously be a new movie focusing on the epic villain. The upcoming “Venom” film will be released as part of the new Spider-Man universe. That will be developed by Marvel Studios in association with Sony Pictures. This will be a huge hit for alien-villain. Who has just made short appearances in 2007’s “Spiderman 3,” where his character was first introduced on film. Now it will form part of a different storyline created between Marvel and Sony, being its first movie “Spider-Man: Homecoming”. That was firstly hinted in the “Captain America: Civil War” movie.

High priority menace

Venom is one of the greatest characters that the Marvel roster counts. Especially due to what it means, according to comics journalist and historian Mike Conroy. “What started out as a replacement costume for Spider-Man turned into one of the Marvel web slinger’s greatest nightmares“. Despite the storyline and development of the story has been kept in secret, at least for now,  many fans begin to speculate. Since we don’t know if we will see Venom in his original villain ways or in his late antihero fashion. Maybe the last one being the most probably. Although a transformation from bad to good (less bad in this case) is also a possible scenario.

Besides being one of the greatest menaces for mankind, and one of the most known and beloved characters and villains of Marvel, Venom is also a high priority for Sony Studios. As the film is one of the studio’s strong bets to get back into the superhero movie and Spider-Man franchise. Especially due to the great buzzing superhero movies are having nowadays. That is so that Sony is also preparing some new movies featuring characters of Spider-Man’s universe. Involving an upcoming one about Silver Sable and another one about Black Cat. Both of them among probably many other characters from the Spider-Man stable.

Legal issues fixed on 2015

The agreement between Marvel and Sony doesn’t mean that the upcoming Spider-Man films will necessarily have an impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Also, and for the let down of many fans, it doesn’t necessarily mean cameos of superheroes or the stars who portray them in Sony’s forthcoming projects. Since the deal, they signed in 2015 allows Sony to share the licensing rights to Spider-Man. Meaning that Marvel doesn’t have to pay Sony to use their own characters, as they won’t receive any profits from Sony films. Still, they can work together in order to serve Marvel’s purpose. As the studios teamed up previously to produce the upcoming “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” which features Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man.

This explains why Venom and other future projects under Sony’s Marvel Universe will most probably not be joint efforts. Also, an important thing to notice is that Venom isn’t a spin-off, as Sony insists. Making many people wonder if Tom Holland’s villain will appear on upcoming Spider-Man’s films. However “Spider-Man: Homecoming’s” director Jon Watts said that Venom is not connected to his film or the rest of the Marvel Universe.”It’s not. It’s not connected to the Marvel world, so that’s really intriguing… what that will be. I don’t know anything about it”.

Hardy is a bad guy

Regarding acting skills and physicality, Hardy is perfect for the role of Venom. “I don’t think there’s anybody out there who can play this character so perfectly and so brilliantly. If the Sony-based Marvel universe starts casting actors and actresses of this caliber and on this level and with this kind of reputation, you are literally building on the backs of these actors and actresses a really strong foundation,” said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at global media measurement and analyst company comScore.

This isn’t the first time that Hardy plays a villain in a superhero film. Since he previously played, majestically, the infamous Bane, in Christopher Nolan’s 2012 “The Dark Knight Rises”. Despite that Bane comes from the world of DC Comics, while Venom originates from Marvel, the level of evilness and physical power are similar. So it won’t be hard for Hardy to fit, and bring some cool aspect of his previous role to Venom.

Filmmaker Ruben Fleischer, from “Zombieland” (2009) and “Gangster Squad” (2013) will be directing the movie. Who has made a name for himself by mixing horror and humor, so maybe we could see this element glancing on the film. The “Venom” movie is one of the most awaited superhero films to be released next year and it will be scripted by American actor and film producer Scott Rosenberg along with Jeff Pinkner. Both previously worked together on 2014′ “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”. It will be produced by Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, and  Amy Pascal, and it will be ready to premiere on October 8th of 2018.
