Lady Gaga was subpoenaed in the Dr. Luke and Kesha case. Gottwald’s legal team claims that she has important information from Kesha, but Lady Gaga is fighting back.
Kesha sued Dr. Luke in 2014 over sexual assault and battery, after the court ruled against her, she ultimately dropped the charges earlier this year. Now Dr. Luke is suing Kesha for defamation.
Will Gaga testify in Kesha’s case?
On Saturday, the producer, whom Kesha has accused of abusing her, attempted to subpoena Lady Gaga for a deposition in the case.
“Dr. Luke’s counsel served a subpoena on Lady Gaga because she has relevant information regarding, among other things, false statements about Dr. Luke made to her by Kesha,” said Dr. Luke’s lawyer in a statement on Saturday.
The relevant information Dr. Luke’s counsel talks about are text messages Kesha and Gaga exchanged in 2013, when Kesha supposedly talked about the incident. But according to reports, the singer’s legal team has another opinion on the subject.
“As Lady Gaga‘s legal team will present to the court, she has provided all of the relevant information in her possession and is at most an ancillary witness in this process,” a representative for Gaga said in a statement to Variety.
“Dr. Luke’s team is attempting to manipulate the truth and draw press attention to their case by exaggerating Lady Gaga‘s role and falsely accusing her of dodging reasonable requests.”
This subpoena suggests that Gottwald’s lawsuit might be far from over. Dr. Luke’s also been trying to get Germanotta to sit for a deposition since March. Her lawyer says she’s unavailable “due [to her] demanding tour and filming schedule.”
Dr. Luke also attempted to sue Kesha’s mother, Pebe Sebert, for defamation in 2014 and 2016, but that case was dismissed last month.
Gaga and Ke$ha have shared the battle against Luke
Kesha’s has legally battled Dr. Luke for years over sexual assault charges. After the court ruled against Kesha in 2016, she ultimately decided to drop the charges citing emotional fatigue.During Kesha’s long and intensive legal battle with the producer, Lady Gaga has been an outspoken supporter of her fellow artist.
When the New York judge, Shirley Kornreich, dismissed all but one of Kesha’s claims against Dr. Luke in 2016.Gaga was among the many celebs to stand up for the singer on social media.
“The very reason women don’t speak up for years is the fear that no one will believe them or their abuser has threatened their life or life of their loved ones/livelihood in order to keep their victim quiet and under control,” Gaga wrote on Instagram and Facebook after the ruling.
“What happened to Kesha has happened to many female artists, including myself, and it will affect her for the rest of her life.”
