20,000 Fans Flee Tomorrowland Music Festival In Barcelona After Fire Breaks

Luckily There Were No Severe Injuries

On Saturday, thousands of festival goers were evacuated after a fire erupted on stage at the Tomorrowland music festival in Spain. The festival was then canceled.

Authorities reported no injuries and reported that the fire was caused by a technical malfunction, the investigation continues.

Technical malfunction fire

It’s been a rough year for music festivals, with no-organization causing chaos, terrible incidents taking place and even deadly accidents happening.

Unfortunately, Tomorrowland United just added to the list of recent disasters. On Saturday, more than 22,000 fans were evacuated after a fire erupted on stage at the Tomorrowland music festival in Spain.

When the fire broke out, revelers had been enjoying acts live-streamed to the festival from the Tomorrowland Mainstage in Belgium.

Footage circulated on social media showed big flames leaping from the stage, creating big plumes of black smoke in front of a crowd.

Luckily, no injuries were reported as the evacuation was conducted in calm according to the Tomorrowland’s authorities statement. However, the event’s private security treated 20 people for minor injuries or anxiety.

The fire required 12 firefighting units and a couple of hours to extinguish it completely.

The rest of Unite Barcelona was canceled following the fire, as the stage was “utterly destroyed” and risked collapsing.

On Sunday morning, organizers promised festivalgoers that their tickets would be refunded in full.

“July 29th had everything to be a great night and the incident happened on stage makes us very sad,” organizers wrote. “The most important thing is that no one was injured.”

It is not clear what caused the blaze, but organizers said on their Facebook page it was due to a technical malfunction.

Tomorrowland taking over the world

Tomorrowland hosted its first event in 2005 and has grown in popularity since. In 2013, tickets for the event sold out in one second.

And this year marked the moment when the legendary festival took over the world, being held in different locations simultaneously.

8 countries, Dubai, Germany, Israel, Lebanon, Malta, South Korea, Spain & Taiwan, united on July 29th to celebrate the EDM festival. While the music festival took place in different locations simultaneously, the main stage was based in Belgium.

And in all fairness, there’s no dance music festival more massively diverse than Belgium’s annual Tomorrowland.

The epic festivities spread across two weekends, and bring a dizzying array of talent from all corners of the dance world to its fantasy headquarters.

This year it featured Afrojack, Eric Prydz, Slushii, Claude VonStroke and more.
