Kelly Clarkson Turned Down ‘Millions’ To Not Share Credit With Dr Luke

She Revelead Everything In An Interview With Radio Station Z100

Kelly Clarkson revealed in a recent interview that she turned down the opportunity to work with producer Dr. Luke. The singer made the revelation in an interview with radio station Z100.

Clarkson recently unveiled two new tracks from her upcoming new album ‘Meaning of Life.’

Letting go

Back in 2009, Clarkson’s label, Sony-owned RCA, forced her to work with the controversial music producer on the track ‘My Life Would Suck Without You’.

“Basically, they were gonna sit on my record unless I did what they wanted,” Clarkson said in an interview with radio station Z100.

“I was so frustrated because I literally said, ‘Anyone in the world but this one person. I will work with anyone you want to put in my path.”

“It was just this one thing, and I asked not to work with Dr. Luke just because I had not had a good experience with him,” she added.

Dr. Luke originally wrote the song with Max Martin and Claude Kelly, but because Clarkson made some changes to it, she could’ve received a fourth writing credit; however, she refused, thus turning down “hundreds of thousands of dollars — or millions” in royalties.

“I was like, ‘I don’t want my name near his. I want to pretend this didn’t happen in my life and I want to forget it,’” the ‘American Idol’ winner recalled.

The songstress stressed that her issues with Dr. Luke are different than Kesha’s.

Legal battle

The producer and pop star have been embroiled in a heated legal battle over claims of sexual assault and battery since October 2014.

Earlier this year, Dr Luke again denied the allegations, saying: “I didn’t rape Kesha and I have never had sex with her. Kesha and I were friends for many years and she was like my little sister.”

Last year, Clarkson spoke out against Dr Luke and in defense of Kesha, offering up her own take on the embattled music producer.

“A lot of artists that have worked with him don’t work with him anymore for pretty good, solid reasons,” she said during an interview with Australia’s KIIS FM The Kyle & Jackie O Show.

“He’s not a good person to me. We’ve clashed. I can’t really say anything other than that.”

Kesha’s legal battles with Dr. Luke are far from over. Lady Gaga will be testifying on behalf of Kesha in Dr. Luke’s defamation case this month.
