King Kong was on fire during its Vietnam premiere. On Thursday the premiere of Kong: Skull Island took an unexpected turn when a giant statue of the famous ape went on fire.
Luckily there were no victims, except for Kong who didn’t make it, and people got to see the expected movie. That’s what I call a thrilling premiere!
Kong literally on fire.
After a dancing display that involved torches and heated moves, a large model of the movie’s ape burst into flames. Once the public noticed it was not part of the show they started fleeing.
Someone’s on fire tonight.
The premiere of Kong: Skull Island in the city of Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam got too much excitement for a night. The blaze began after performers danced around onstage next to a giant figure of Kong.
At first, the public thought it was part of the show, but once they noticed that was not in the plans chaos came in. The fire was controlled within 15 minutes and the show continued.
The cause of the fire remains unknown. Some reports say that it was caused by a dancer’s torch, whether others say that it was caused by an erupting volcano that was part of the display.
The show goes on.
A Vietnamese representative of WB said in a statement, “The fire was extinguished quickly and after all was deemed safe, the resiliency of Kong’s Vietnamese fans came through when they filled the theater to enjoy the film.”
He added, “We want to express our gratitude to the Ho Chi Minh City fire department, who kept everyone in attendance safe, as well as the CGV management, who acted quickly to address the situation.”
A pretty special premiere.
The Vietnam premiere of the movie was pretty special not only because of the fire. A large part of the movie takes action in Vietnam. This is why the company put so much effort to bring a big show to the premiere and created this 16 feet special Kong for the premiere.
Kong: Skull Island is set in the 70s, during the Vietnam war where a group of explorers ventures in the island and find the giant ape. The movie stars Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson and John Goodman
Taking the box office.
The movie hits the US theaters this weekend competing with Logan for the first place in the box office. Even when Godzilla already has its sequel, Kong’s sequel is yet to be announced.
Nevertheless, we’ll see him fighting another legendary monster upcoming 2020 Godzilla Vs Kong movie. Let’s hope this flame doesn’t catch fire just yet.
