These Sensors Turn Your Drumsticks Into A Virtual Drumkit

Let’s Rock & Roll

Rock and music fans your prayers have been answered. Air drumming will no longer be a lame thing, you will be actually doing music now. How? thanks to a Kickstarter soon to come product called Freedrum.

You will be able to take your drums anywhere now, thanks to their light and portable system. All you need is your a smartphone and your Freedrum sensor attached to your drumsticks. It works with almost every music program that exists and since you will mainly be hearing it on your phone you won’t wake anyone and nobody will question or make fun of your “skills”.

Taking air drumming to a whole new level.

Something we have being doing for ages turned into reality. Freedrum is designed to give musicians the most natural drumming experience. It’s adaptable to any size drumstick and can be placed anywhere to suit anyone’s drumming style. When Freedrum is off it’s so small it can fit easily into a pocket.

Designed to resist the shock.

It doesn’t require an internet connection and runs on a battery that should keep you drumming for as long as 7 hours of intense use and recharges in one. They use a shock-resistant ABS plastic for the enclosure to ensure it is strong and lightweight. As well they have reduced the number of parts in it is designed, so it can also be easy to be repairable.

Hit after hit

The design of Freedrum with a single button that turns the device on and calibrates it so you can start playing as quickly as possible.  As well the Freedrum team has worked extremely hard to keep every hit as accurate as it would sound in real life. They only complain they’ve is that in the Android system the sound presents a lag of milliseconds late, something that for their very high standards isn’t acceptable. Something that they’re working to solve as soon as possible.

Baby kicks

This incredible project started when creator August Bering’s son wanted to learn how to play the drums. “A year ago, my 10 years old wanted to learn to play the drums. So we brought his grandfather’s old drum kit home for him to practice. It was falling apart and when we eventually managed to put it together it took up half his room. Also, it was just as loud as I remember from when I played in a rock band in our garage in the 90’s. And now I don’t even have a garage.”

“Well, being a resourceful father and musician myself I looked around for an alternative. Of course, there are the usual electronic drum kits out there, but they’re just as large and not really silent either. Great I said, this is an opportunity to make the coolest drum kit in the world! I stole my son’s drumsticks and started building…”
