What’s Going On Between Scarlett Johansson and Ivanka Trump?

I GuessThat SNL Sketch Really Hurt The First Daughter

Scarlett Johansson took her feud with Ivanka Trump one step further. On Thursday, in an interview at the Women in the World Summit in NYC, Johansson called Ivanka “cowardly” for not addressing disagreements with her father.

Earlier this week, Ivanka spoke about her position as a new federal employee in the Trump administration. Johansson made crystal clear she’s not impressed by Ivanka’s performance in the administration. Take a look.

Complicit, the fragrance for the loyal woman

Being mocked by Saturday Night Live is pretty normal for the Trump family. While President Trump has been mocked and criticized on several occasions by Alec Baldwin, Eric and Donald Jr. also got their share of impersonation on the show, the First Daughter Ivanka also met his SNL moment.

On March 12, Scarlett Johansson dropped by SNL to do an impression of the First Daughter. The sketch was a faux ad for a perfume called Complicit. The sketch shows Scarlet as Ivanka, walking around a party where she’s noticed by all the guests. At one point, Ivanka sees herself in a mirror and sees her father, Donald Trump as her reflection.

The title totally suits the sketch which criticized Ivanka failing to speak out on some of the Administration’s controversial policies. Such as the Muslim Ban.The fragrance’s ad concluded saying, “the fragrance for the woman who could stop all this — but won’t.” Ouch, pretty clear right?

This marked the beginning of the feud between the actress and the First Daughter.

Of changes behind closed doors

Earlier this week, Ivanka gave an interview to CBS News in which she addressed accusations of being complicit. This marked her very first interview since the inauguration.

During the interview with Gayle King Ivanka said, “If being complicit is wanting to… be a force for good and to make a positive impact, then I’m complicit. I don’t know that the critics who may say that of me if they found themselves in this very unique and unprecedented situation that I am now in, would do any differently than I am doing.”

Then she went on saying, “I don’t know what it means to be complicit, but you know, I hope time will prove that I have done a good job, and much more importantly, that my father’s administration is the success that I know it will be.”

Then she addressed the accusations of not speaking out her disagreement on issues and said, “I don’t think that it will make me a more effective advocate to constantly articulate every issue publicly where I disagree.”

Finally, she said that her most impact will happen behind closed doors,  “And that’s okay. That means that I’ll take hits from some critics who say that I should take to the streets and then other people will in, the long-term respect, where I get to. But I think most of the impact I have, over time most people will not actually know about.”

From day one there’s been a concern over the extent of her influence as an informal adviser. Which raised critics on ethics rules concerns. After the plans to serve as an informal adviser with a West Wing office drew criticism, Ivanka recently became an official federal employee as assistant to the president.

Slamming Ivanka

On Thursday, Scarlett Johansson responded to Ivanka’s statement in the CBS interview igniting the feud once again. During an interview with Arianna Huffington at the Women in the World Summit, the actress addressed the issue.

Scarlett took on Ivanka claiming she stands up to her father behind closed doors and said, “I thought to myself, ‘Well, that’s empowering!’ How old-fashioned, this idea that behind a great man is a great woman. What about being in front of that person, or next to that person?”

Then she continued, “Powerful women often get concerned with this idea that they’re going to be seen in this unforgiving light. Screw that. … It’s so uninspired and actually really cowardly. And I was so disappointed by that interview she gave yesterday.”

The actress acknowledged that it must be a strange situation for Ivanka but then stressed the fact that the Frist Daughter certainly has the power and duty to make things happen. She said, “But she has the opportunity to really make a big impact, just by being vocal.” she’s a very well-spoken, smart and intelligent woman. … It baffles me, the whole situation baffles me.”

Ivanka’s noticeable silence about women’s rights and other issues has met many critics.

During the presidential race, she promised her father would back wage equality and she made women’s empowerment a major part of her White House portfolio. Nevertheless

Nevertheless, facts point in a different direction. Last week Trump revoked the Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces Executive Order, signed by Obama in 2014.

On Tuesday, which marked Equal Pay Day she was heavily criticized. Many slammed Ivanka as hollow and hypocritical after tweeting her support to fight gender wage gap.
