Since in recent times Dortmund cut Bayern’s control on the German league. But still, due to Bayern’s history and tradition they still have the upper hand in what won titles concern. Recent times

After Borussia Dortmund’s overcame its bankruptcy on 2002, they started a new player singing politics. As they started scouting and signing young players with tons of potential. Generating some impressive stars from today’s world of soccer like Robert Lewandowski, Mario Götze, Ilkay Gündogan, Matts Hummels, Marco Reus, Pierre-Emrick Aubameyang, and more.

This new vision took Borussia Dortmund to the top as they won the League titles on 2011 and 2012, achieving the double as they also won the German cup on 2012. Also, winning the German Supercup on 2013 and 2014.

But many of these stars besides granting Dortmund some international recognition also caught Bayern’s eye, as they’re the most successful club in Germany. As the Bavarian side used this aspect to attract many of this young rising stars, upsetting many Dortmund fans.

Götze was the first to leave announcing it before their crucial UEFA Champions League final match on 2013. Then so did Lewandowski and Hummels and all previous key elements of Dortmund’s team. Who then quickly became equally important on Bayern’s side. Being probably the most upsetting chapters for the Dortmund fans the cases of Götze, since he was a local boy, and Hummels, who was the team’s captain the previous year before leaving for their bitter rivals.

The supposedly irreversible trend

Due to the constant purchase of their key figures, Dortmund has replaced them with new talented youngsters and turning them into stars. This year Dortmund’s has many talented promises. In the likes of Julian Weigl, Ousmane Dembele, Emre Mor, Christian Pulisic and Felix Passlack. To what the fans from the yellow and black team from the Ruhr fear of happening again.

As the two sides faced each other this Saturday on what is known as “Der Klassiker, ” Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the chief executive of the reigning Bundesliga Bavarian champions, has said that this year Dortmund has nothing to worry about. As it seems that his side’s habit of signing their rivals’ star men has ended.

Rummenigge has assured it on an interview with WAZ. As he said “I can guarantee today that we have not contacted or will contact any of these players.” insisting that history won’t be repeated with Dortmund for now. Something that many take as an interpretation of Dortmund’s irregular performance this season.
Despite Rummenigge’s declarations, many stay skeptical. Since the Bavarian side still has the constant tradition of purchasing the best players from the local teams, practically disbanding them. Something for what they’ve been criticized.
As before Dortmund, they brought players like Michael Ballack, Lucio and Ze Roberto from Bayer Leverkusen, who was the 2002 Champions League. Also, on 2007 and 2008 they bought Miroslav Klose and Tim Borowski from Werder Bremen and this year they have done the same with the surprise Hoffenheim. Buying their key defender Niklas Süle and midfielder Sebastian Rudy for the next season. It seems Bayern can’t kick their old habits.
