Rock & Roll has always had a special charm. With its hard riffs, anthem-like lyrics and the motion feelings they create when it’s all put together. That’s what the powerful British duo from Brighton, Royal Blood, have been doing. Creating some hard rock blues rooted songs.

As they’re bringing back the Hard Rock with their sound they’re also bringing new music. As their new album date has been released, and it will be called “How Did We Get So Dark?” something that sounds pretty fair to us.

Darker and heavier

The album will be released on June 16th and it will have a 10 songs tracklist, as the band recently revealed. Along with all of that the guys recently released the video of one of their new songs that will feature on the LP titled “Lights Out.”

The video is really eye-catching, as it starts pretty normal with Kerr and Thatcher playing on a mat inside a white room. But then it gets’ a bit messed up, as the room starts flooding and bodies start emerging and float everywhere. The band being the only thing afloat in the room until the “lights go out” and the guys are in red and start to sink.

Royal Blood played one of their new tracks last year. As they performed their song “Hook, Line, And Sinker,” at Reading Festival. The track number 8 of their new album has a powerful rhythmic section, with a heavy and sludgy bass riff along with a pounding rhythm drums. The track also features a falsetto chorus in which Kerr sang “Say my name again/ You’re caught in the middle.”

Along with that, the guys from the band recently revealed the album’s artwork through Twitter. As they posted a video of two artists painting a mural of two women sitting across from each other. As both women look very pensive, something that on the moment raised the expectative of it was going to be the cover or not.

Recording process

Royal Blood has been teasing their fans since last December as they shared small clips and videos revealing that they were recording their second album. The power duo first created all the ten songs in an instrumental form during a session on their native Brighton. As they went to Los Angeles and Nashville to complete and add the final touches to what we will hear on the songs.

Then in November, the pair went to Brussels for six weeks where they recorded “How Did We Get So Dark?” alongside producer Joylon Thomas. Finally, they finished off the album with the assistance of mixer Tom Dalgety in London. Giving birth to “How Did We Get So Dark?.” For the duo, the album has a way more mature sound than their debut album.

As frontman Mike Kerr explained “We had a warehouse space in Burbank [in California] and it was great. We’d party at night and write all day. By that point, we felt the record was coming together and there was a bit of a theme between the songs.” Kerr also said that they wrote about 50 songs for the album with the motto “anything you’re not proud of, bin it”  giving to the album a “way sexier, more confident sounding” than their debut.

You can pre-order the band’s new album through their official website and will be released by Warner Bros. As this will include an instant download of “Lights Out.” Also, you can check Royal Blood’s tour dates and support their new album here.
