Freddy Mercury, a.k.a, one of the greatest rock bands in the world is not dead and its actually touring this Summer. Queen + Adam Lambert will take the U.S by storm this summer by bringing the greatest hits of the rock band and an entirely new show.
The American Idol graduate, Adam Lambert, has performed with the Queen legends for over five years. They had kept the show in Europe but now they’re more than ready to bring it to the US. Are you ready for some serious rock and roll?
One of the most iconic rock bands.
Queen is for sure one of the most iconic rock bands in history. Since its formation in 1970, the band shocked the world with its energy and awesome songs. The members Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon met international success with the 1975 album A Nigh In The Opera.
“Bohemian Rhapsody” is one of the bands biggest hits. The song not only peaked at number one for nine weeks but also popularized what we now know as music videos. Queen has a total of 18 number one album and 18 number one singles. Its best single is 1980’s Another One Bites the Dust, and its best-selling album is 1981’s compilation album Greatest Hits.
Freddieless Queen.
After Freddy Mercury’s death in 1991, the band continued performing until 1997, when Deacon retired. Since then Taylor and May have occasionally performed together.
From 2003 till 2008 May and Taylor performed with blues singer Paul Rodgers. The show titled Queen + Rodgers toured the world. They even recorded an album studio called The Cosmos Rock, but experience taught them that Queen fans rather listen to Queen’s Freddy on record, and having the Queen experience on concerts.
In 2008 the Rodgers-Queen collaboration broke off and May and Taylor thought they had left behind their arena days. Until they heard of Adam Lambert.
Queen + Adam Lambert.
In 2009 Adam Lambert auditioned for American Idol singing Queen’s hit Bohemian Rhapsody. Lambert has been a long-time fan. The band had strongly influenced him and his work. As a kid, Lambert had a fixation over Freddie Mercury who he thought represented his interests in the masculine and the feminine world. He said to the Rolling Stones magazine “When I look at the history of rock & roll, Queen is the band that resonated the most with me: ‘That’s me, that’s my life.'”
Back in 2009, Lambert didn’t even dream about performing with his greatest heroes, but Queen definitely was interested in Lambert performing in the band. May said to Rolling Stones “There was no escaping the fact that Adam was perfect.” That’s how all of the sudden Queen appeared on the season finale of American Idol with the participants singing “We Will Rock You”/”We Are the Champions.”
Three years later Adam debuted in Ukraine with the Queen + Adam Lambert tour. The tour has since performed in many places in Europe. Adam had some big shoes to fill, but he totally delivered since the very first show in Ukraine. Over the past six years, Adam has grown more and more confident and more comfortable allowing him more freedom in the performances.
Taking over the US.
Now they take the show to the US. A 25 city tour commencing on June will take the US this summer. The tour will be landing on the 40th anniversary of the multi-platinum record News of the World, in 1997.
The Queen + Adam Lambert experience is planned to bring all the latest art digital based stage production. This way the band will modernize the experience. But there’s still room for the good old days since the band plans to use the technology to recreate some moments of the past, May says “People will be shocked. It doesn’t look traditional at all.”
The tour’s songs will mix the best of the band’s hits with some of those songs only hardcore fans know. This is all set as part of the experience for the tour, as the band wants to really surprise fans and give them the very best. Regarding this Taylor says “Just to keep our own interest up, we’ll be doing stuff we either haven’t done before or haven’t done for a long time…. We started as an albums band – that’s what we were. The fact that we had hits was just ‘by the way.’ It was a byproduct.”
It’s bound to be great!!
