Franco’s ‘Disaster Artist’ Is A Strong Look To The Cult Trash Film

The first trailer for James Franco’s upcoming film, ‘The Disaster Artist’ was released on Tuesday, and it’s brilliant. The film is a comedy about Tommy Wiseau’s film ‘The Room.’

‘The Disaster Artist’ is set to hit screens on December, and brings together Franco and longtime  bestie Seth Rogen, and his brother Dave Franco.

Inspired by Tommy Wiseau, Franco’s film takes a funny outtake to the 2004 movie.

Franco’s new film its its a nod at the notorious 2004, Tommy Wiseau film, cited by several critics as one of the worst movies ever made. Franco plays ‘The Room’s’ director Tommy Wiseau and his brother, Dave Franco, plays Greg Sestero. An actor who later wrote a memoir, called ‘The Disaster Artist’, about his time working on the film.

The film also features stars Seth Rogen, Zoey Deutch, Sharon Stone, Bryan Cranston, Kristin Bell, Zac Efron and Melanie Griffith.

The first teaser for the new film features Franco as Wiseau trying desperately to master some of the film’s more ridiculous dialogues. Meanwhile, the crew looks on, growing more exasperated with each of the 67 takes.

The project was directed by James Franco and co-written by ‘(500) Days of Summer’ screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber. ‘The Disaster Artist’ will be released in theaters Dec. 1, 2017.

Franco’s perspective of the film has been acclaimed by critics and viewers

Tommy Wiseau’s film, ‘The Room’ went on to become a cult classic, thanks to its poor qulity, bizarre acting and directing choices. The film is marred by absurd plot twists, questionable acting and some of the worst dialogue ever put to script, according to critics.

But while ‘The Room’ is considered “the Citizen Kane of bad movies,” Franco’s outtake about the movie has had an acclaimed acceptance by fans and critics.During its debut at this year’s South by Southwest Film Festival, it received a standing ovation. And some even think it could nab Oscar nominations.

James Franco said Wiseau’s method of directing was strange, but during the film’s production, Franco said he later identified with Wiseau. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Franco said,

“The more I sat with this movie and in post [-production] and going through my own stuff, like, I am Tommy Wiseau. I relate to him so much, in ways I don’t even want to admit.”
