Sorry Avatar fans but seems like the return to Pandore is taking longer that we expected. Director James Cameron announced in an interview with The Toronto Star that the movie won’t be released on Christmas 2018.
The expected sequel to the huge 2009 blockbuster has been re-scheduled for the third time. Cameron and the crew are taking on a huge project filming parts 2, 3 4, and 5 of the Avatar franchise at the same time. But no worries, after all, he took four years filming the first one! So get comfy!
Waiting for Avatar 2….
In 2009, Avatar gathered $2.8 billion worldwide becoming the highest grossing movie of all time and also winning three Oscars. Considering this it’s worth waiting for the expected sequels even now that the director said there’s a new delay.
Director James Cameron revealed to The Toronto Star that the movie will not be released on Christmas 2018, “Well, 2018 is not happening. We haven’t announced a firm release date” he said stressing the fact that they haven’t announced a firm release date yet.
Cameron gave no information about if the other three films are also behind schedule, but considering they’re filming simultaneously they will most likely be affected.
Epic project on their hands.
Cameron said to the Toronto Star, “What people have to understand is that this is a cadence of releases. So we’re not making Avatar 2. We’re making Avatar 2, 3, 4 and 5. It’s an epic undertaking. It’s not unlike building the Three Gorges dam.”
The director and the crew have dedicated the last couple of years to the project and are engaged to dedicating at least the next eight years. “So I know where I’m going to be for the next eight years of my life. It’s not an unreasonable time frame if you think about it. It took us four-and-a-half years to make one movie and now we’re making four,” said Cameron.
Cameron also explained that the ambitious levels of the project are what’s delaying the release, just remember the visuals of the first movie. Luckily he also added that the crew is “full tilt boogie right now”.
Back in Pandora.
There’s no much information about the film’s plot but it’s known that Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana are back in Pandora as the blue characters.
Sigourney Weaver’s character died in the 2009’s original but the actress is taking another role and she said to Variety, that the three scripts are even more amazing that the first one. This time we’ll see more of the Pandora natives, “He did a lot of the heavy lifting in the first movie, establishing the family and the relationships and the world, and now he really gets to play,” said Weaver.
According to Cameron, more information about the film will be released when time’s right. Can’t wait!
