Critics that previewed ‘Life of Kylie’ offered their thoughts on the show over the weekend, and they’re not good. This might be sad news for Kylie’s fans who anticipated her own reality show.
The latest reality show in the Kardashian’s slate premiered on August 6.
Watching a 30-minute Snapchat, or so
Kylie Jenner is taking the reigns of her own reality show, and early reviews for ‘Life Of Kylie’ are questioning what the show is set out to do.
The show will follow the youngest Kardashian mogul as she continues work for her beauty brand, Kylie Cosmetics, The Kylie Shop, and her clothing brand with model sister Kendall Jenner, Kendall and Kylie.
The 19-year-old reckons it’s the first time she’s been so open. Reviews of the show seem to wish she hadn’t bothered.
“It’s amazing how much whining Jenner does,” writes CNN’s Brian Lowry.
The Daily Beast author Amy Zimmerman titled her review of the series ‘inside the charmed life of an anxious, paranoid rich girl’.
“In an effort to differentiate Life of Kylie from their more mature reality TV offerings, E! has layered Snapchat filters and neon lettering over their footage. Revealing Instagrams of Kylie Jenner bounce around the screen, and windows multiply like unwanted pop-ups,” says Zimmerman.
Cosmopolitan’s Lauren Hoffman says the series lacks the insight of previous Kardashian shows and is basically a rehash of Jenner’s social media posts.
“It frequently goes as far as to actually just replay Snapchats on screen. It feels horrifyingly lazy at worst and just plain boring at best… it feels like watching a 30-minute Snapchat, and that doesn’t make for great television.”
How many time will span the latest Kardashian series?
According to Deadline, the first season of ‘Life of Kylie‘ will have eight episodes. A modest start to what could be the next piece of the Kardashian media empire.
That makes sense because if ‘Life of Kylie‘ premieres with two episodes on Aug. 6. Its eight episodes will lead perfectly into the 14th season of ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’, which premieres on Oct. 1.
Since 2007, when the first episode of ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians‘ aired, the family has starred in six spinoffs: ‘Kourtney and Kim Take Miami’, ‘Kourtney and Kim Take New York’, ‘Khloé & Lamar‘, ‘Kourtney and Khloé Take The Hamptons’, ‘Dash Dolls’, and ‘Rob & Chyna‘, so ‘Life of Kylie’ is just the latest of many.
But Kylie’s incredible success on her own actually raises a few questions about how ‘Life of Kylie’ will distinguish itself.
The series is said to be “an inside look at her everyday life,” but Kylie’s fans are already afforded a look into her everyday life for a few minutes a day. Whenever she broadcasts live to her millions of followers about what she and her friends are doing and thinking about.
Seems like we’ll have to watch it.
