This Super Bowl Ad By Lumber Was Too Controversial For Tv

Guess What, It’s About Immigration

The Super Bowl LI was this past Sunday, and as every year the commercials it brings us were amazing. Entertaining, dazzling, fun, biographical, appealing, and it seems that this year even political. Since many companies used their time on air to give a few their thoughts with all is happening in the U.S.

For many, the whole Super Bowl was a day full shocking events. Not only due to the comeback that granted the New England Patriots victory.  But also because of the political tones of some of the commercials. Especially the ones from Budweiser and the one from 84 Lumber.

The 84 Lumber ad.

The Pennsylvania-based construction company, 84 Lumber was one of the talking points on Sunday’s evening. After their first ever Super Bowl ad was aired.

The commercial that was on our screens’ during mid time only lasts 90 seconds and it isn’t complete. Since Fox found it way too controversial to be aired. The commercial ends inviting the viewers to see the conclusion of the story their present on 84 Lumber’s official page online.

The controversial story.

The story starts with a mother and a daughter in Mexico. Who are getting prepared to embark on a really hard journey that many people in Central America do. We see them preparing to leave their country.

This is why the ad name is the journey. Since in the 90 seconds that were aired we see this mother and daughter going through tons of obstacles to reach the US-Mexico border. Between all of this, we see the little girl gathering scraps of cloth, that by the end of the 90 seconds we see stitching together.

Crashing the internet.

After the commercial aired so many people were intrigued by the ad. So the viewers did as the commercial said and entered to 84 Lumber’s website to find out the complete 5-minutes version of the story. The buzz was so that the page actually crashed.

The rest of the story shows the pair going through some other difficult situations until they finally reach U.S. border. They found that the border is a wall, making the mom fall in tears. Then the little girl reveals that she was sewing together a U.S. flag with the scraps of cloth.

The light at the end of the road.

After the heartwarming moment, the mom and daughter share they spot a light coming from the wall. Then they see that that in the giant wall there is a door, made out of wood. Which they simply push wide open and enter the U.S. acceding to their dream.

At the end of the ad it reads. “The will to succeed is always welcomed here.”  Presenting that despite everything that’s going on 84 Lumber is still a door for those who want to work and succeed at the U.S.

The web controversy.

The owners of 84 Lumber said that their original ad was rejected by Fox for being too political. Also, the commercial made social media crashed.

Since for many, the ad was amazing, for others not so much but for everybody, it was odd that a construction company had to go and made such a dig at politics.

If you want to see the complete story of the Journey.
