Okay, Led Zeppelin fans, there’s no need to panic, but Robert Plant just left a very cryptic and suspicious message on his website. “Any time now…” Any time now, what, Rob? Is that what we think it is? Maybe, a reunion?!
Three words from the once lead singer of one of the greatest rock bands in history were enough to break the internet. Rumors say that this message could mean a Led Zeppelin reunion, which makes sense since the band will be celebrating its 50th anniversary next year.
There are even more speculations about the hypothetic reunion, saying it could be staged by AEG Presents, the promoters of the Desert Trip festival in Indio, California. Last year, the three-day festival – properly dubbed as “Oldchella” – gathered classic-rock legends such as The Rolling Stones, Roger Waters, Paul McCartney, and more, earning over $160 million.
Last month, Gary Tovar, the founder of AEG’s Goldenvoice promotion unit, told The Guardian “we’d like to bring up the Led [Zeppelin] if you know what I mean.” Tovar is no longer part of the company, but his commentary fueled rumors about a possible reunion.
Desert Trip 2017 has not yet been announced
As much as we would love to see Led Zeppelin headlining a festival full of even more rock legends, AEG hasn’t announced another edition of Desert Trip festival for this year.
Also, sources told Billboard that “there’s no deal in place” to get Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, and John Paul Jones back together for a reunion. Instead, Plant’s words on his website may be a teaser for a forthcoming album and not a live performance.
According to Feel Numb, rumors say that they turned down a reported $14 million to play last year. But this year would make so much more sense to do the reunion.
Plant has been always the one turning down the possibilities of a reunion. Jimmy Page said, “Robert would rather play Led Zeppelin with his own band, not with his old band members.”
The last time the iconic rock band performed together was ten years ago. In December 2007, the three remaining members of the band gathered with Jason Bonham – the son of the late founder member and percussionist John Bonham – on the drums, to play at London’s The O2 as part of the Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Concert. Over 20 million requests were made for tickets to the show.
Led Zeppelin could still reunite with a help from Adam Lambert
It seems, for now, a reunion is not in sight, but the hope will remain until Plant himself clarifies the subject. Until then, the transcendental 60s rock band could set a reunion without Robert Plant, and with Adam Lambert instead.
In a recent interview with NME, the American Idol runner-up revealed a hidden desire to join Led Zeppelin on tour.
Lambert had been collaborating since 2011 with rock band Queen in the Queen + Adam Lambert project, filling in for late Freddie Mercury. The project came to an end in 2016, after a successful two-year worldwide tour.
The singer was talking about the possibilities of fronting another band, saying that singing with Queen was a lifetime dream come true, and trying to emulate that with another act might be “pressing his luck.” But he finally revealed that joining Led Zeppelin on tour would be his next step if he could.
“I’ve got the full fantasy so I don’t know if I would even attempt to do another,” he said. “I don’t know, that’s a big question, I mean, I would love to sing some Led Zeppelin.”
While the Led Zeppelin + Adam Lambert is still an idea that needs to be processed, the young singer is on the works of a new Queen tour, offering a new visual experience. The band is planning an ambitious U.K. and European tour, inspired by Queen’s ‘News of the World’ album.
