Get ready Mouseketeers! On Tuesday, Disney announced the reboot of The Mickey Mouse Club with a modern twist. The show will be stream exclusively on Facebook.
The news comes amidst the already announced spin-off of That’s So Raven and the flood of classic remakes. We will finally have our Mouseketeers back!
A new Mickey Mouse Club era
During Disney‘s Digital Content NewFront presentation in New York, Josh Mattison vice president of digital ad sales for Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media, announced the Mouse House is bringing the Mouseketeers back.
The announcement came during the annual presentation where the Mouse house shows advertisers preview upcoming online video programming.
Mattison pointed out that the show is coming back in a new format as it will be live streamed through Facebook. This way Disney joins online shows such as “Science and Star Wars,” which is also part of the Facebook Anthology program.
For the Mouse House the new format comes in handy, Mattison added, “That’s the beauty. We’re not bound to one format. We’re not bound to one length. You don’t have those same lines when you’re not producing 11s and 22s [referring to 11-minutes and 22-minute standard length TV series]. What makes sense for a consumer? How long would you spend looking at something?”
Rita Ferro, president of advertising sales for Disney, explained that the company will be exploring more on this format, “Branded content is a priority for Facebook. We’re going to be working with them on a bunch of things.
Remake on the way
The news of this rebirth is huge as Club Mickey Mouse, which has always been a variety show, as it has delivered some of the biggest stars.
The show has had several versions, the original one was in 1950s Mickey Mouse Club starring Annette Funicello which was a household name.
Then the revival The All-New Mickey Mouse Club, which ran from 1989 to 1994. It gave us some of the biggest superstars of these days. Big names such as Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, JC Chasez, Ryan Gosling and Keri Russell all got their big break in the Mouse House show.
The cast has yet to be announced and also the release date. However, we’re sure the cast will include some of the biggest names for future years.
The digital edge of the show doesn’t limit to being streamed. The company has said that the cast will include “young creators.” We’re guessing there will be influencers. Club Mickey Mouse will premiere later this year.
