The Grammy Awards are one of the greatest nights in music. Not only we get to see our favorite artists winning the aimed award, but the ceremony is a full display of fashion, performances and crazy moments.
Grammys are bound to drop some jaws with the craziest situations such as challenging the laws of decor, arriving in giant eggs, crazy apologies and more. Since the awards will be taking place this Sunday, we decided to compile some of the oddest moments at the awards.
10. When Metallica got robbed in 1989.
In 1989 the Hard Rock/Metal category made its debut at the Grammys, and as Metallica was in the rise people assumed the band had won the category. Well, turned out the band lost to the British rock group Jethro Tull. After learning the winner, the crowd went crazy raged and booed the British band.
9. Apologizing for the nipple scandal.
In 2004 Justin Timberlake was part of the famous nip slip scandal at the Super Bowl when he revealed Janet Jackson’s nipple. Well, as part of his acceptance speech for Best Pop Performance JT decided to apologize for the incident, and it was weird as hell.
8. Elton John and Eminem.
In 2001, Eminem was harshly criticized for his lyrics in The Marshall MathersLP. People considered the lyrics were homophobic and as the day of the ceremony arrived, in which Eminem was performing, protesters took the outside of the Staples Center. The shock came when Eminem performed the song “Stan” alongside Elton John.
7. Boycotting the awards.
After controversial SNL performance when Sinead O’Connor tore up a photo of the Pope, she was invited to perform at the 1990 Grammys. The Irish singer, who incidentally won Best Alternative Music Performance, boycotted the ceremony by not attending the ceremony as she considered it too commercial.
6. Faking it and not making it.
in 1990, the German duo Milli Vanilli won Best New Artist and even performed in the show. Eight months later they pair was removed from their award as the Academy found out they had been lip synching the whole time. Say goodbye to the glory!
5. Infamous dress breaking the news.
In 2000 Jennifer Lopez attended the ceremony wearing a bold Versace dress. The dress had lots of cleavages and blew people’s mind and got everybody talking about it.
4. Crashing the stage in the Kanye way.
Not only Kanye is famous for crashing the stage just in the middle of the acceptance speech. In 1998, after losing to P. Diddy, Wu-Tang Clan’s Ol’ Dirty Bastard took the stage to defend his Clan during another acceptance speech. ODB delivered a bizarre rant and made sure people knew it was “for the children.”
3. Chris Brown assaults Rihanna.
In the 2009’s ceremony, the ‘at that time’ couple was supposed to perform, but their appearances were called all of the sudden due to reports of Chris being involved in the assault of a woman. The women turned out to be Rihanna and a media storm begun following the incident.
2. Lady Gaga arriving in an egg.
Gaga has given a lot to talk about over the years, and the 2011 Grammy ceremony was no exception. The pop diva made an odd appearance on the red carpet when she showed up encased in a giant egg. Hours later he hatched from the egg and performed “Born this way.”
1. Roman’s exorcism.
In 2012, Nicki Minaj delivered an awkward and scary performance when she made the rendition of her new singles “Roman’s Revenge” and “Roman Holiday.” The performance included exorcism and levitation. She sure knows how to make a show. She also hit the red carpet with the “Pope.”
