‘Fear The Walking Dead’ made its antitipated return to the small screen on Sunday. The spinoff premiered the second half of its third season. While ‘The Walking Dead’s spin-off already made its return, ‘The Walking Dead’ will premiere this fall and new information keeps coming up.
The return of the best season yet
‘Fear the Walking Dead’ returned with its Season 3 midseason premiere. Sunday’s episode was two hours and three minutes long in what marks the show’s best season yet. It’s hard not to be excited about this episode, especially since we’re getting a premiere that is more than two hours long!
The 309 episode, titled ‘Minotaur’ picks back up after a hiatus with Nick Clark (Frank Dillane) and Troy Otto (Daniel Sharman) trying to work together to secure the ranch against a new herd of Infected.
The clip shows that there is a lot of tension between the two as Troy calls Nick a poet. Nick rebuffs the title, saying he’s not one. But Troy talks about all of Nick’s angst and suffering, saying he has the soul of a poet.
He also explains that it’s not an insult; poets can kill just like anyone else. Troy may downplay it, but he is definitely trying to start something with Nick with his choice of words.
‘Fear the Walking Dead’ is a good show to help fill the void while we wait for ‘The Walking Dead’ to return.
Recap, just to fill the voids
Season 3 started at a military compound, then moved to a survivalist ranch. Both locations were run by prominent members of the Otto family. There’s Troy, whose position of power took him to dark places with his army pals. He was experimenting on prisoners and purposely killing them to watch them become zombies. It wasn’t great.
He also has a weird obsession with Madison. His father Jeremiah, who Nick killed in the midseason finale, was worse. While he kept his family alive, his views were problematic. He was endangering his community, and both Madison and Nick had to make a tough decision.
There’s one other living member of the Otto family, Troy’s brother Jake. He’s fairly normal.
So, while Madison has reunited with both of her children, not all is well with their situation. Travis died at the beginning of the season, so there are no more survivors from the Manawa family on ‘Fear The Walking Dead’.
After recovering from an injury, Nick’s love interest Luciana left to go off on her own again. Alicia has integrated herself into the ranch society, but has leadership instincts and could easily take charge later on.
The midseason finale also revealed that when Madison was a child, she killed her alcoholic and abusive father in order to save herself and her mother. The guidance counselor’s survivalist instincts finally have more context.
Glorious comeback
There is no stopping AMC’s epic zombie show ‘The Walking Dead’ from hitting its glorious 100th episode in this forthcoming month. As we walk into the premiere date, there’s lot of zombie-crazed fans dying for more information. Luckily, new details are coming!
First on the list is probably the most underused fan favorite in the previous season. Underused as she was, the upcoming eighth season of ‘The Walking Dead’ is all set to redeem her often redeeming qualities.
Perennial survivor Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) is bound to be all-out with her famous temperament and mischief in the show’s next installment. This news is especially refreshing to those who found the character to be under-utilized.
Showrunner Scott Gimple via TV Line has also shared, “Her entire storyline has prepared her for this. She’s ready.”
He added that the character’s courage and seemingly interminable strength that she portrayed is quite a satisfaction.
Meanwhile, Gimple also enlightened the fans about King Ezekiel’s (Khary Payton) storyline in the imminent season. He revealed that he’s not going to wage war against the current baddie Negan, although the character will have some of the most intense scenes.
Ezekiel and Carol’s characters are also bound to be in contrast relative to the war that is being waged at the moment.
The nefarious nemesis Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) is next on our list. The recently released synopsis of the upcoming season has suggested that the bat-toting character may finally reap his comeuppance.
The eighth season of ‘The Walking Dead’, which will consist of 16 episodes, is to be broken down into two sections with eight episodes each — quite akin to some of its previous installments. The popular show’s season 8 opener is set to premier on October 22 on AMC.
