Dragon Ball Super: A recap of the saga

“Dragon Ball Super” has been around since 2015, now a trailer for a new upcoming saga has been released. The “Super” started with “God of Destruction Beerus” arc before proceeding to “Golden Freeza”. Then “Universe 6” began in January 2016 and was followed by the “Future Trunks” arc. Now the next one is titled “Universal Survival”. Even though the series was set to premiere on February 5th of this year, the “Universal Survival” saga will be part of the recent simulcast agreement with Crunchyroll and Funimation have scored. While Toonami will begin airing the English dub on Adult Swim Saturdays at 11:30 p.m.

“All the Gods of Destruction and Kaiōshin assemble, and an inter-universe martial arts competition is announced” the teaser explains, describing the competition as the Tournament of Power. All of this after Goku approached the Omni-Kings, he was able to convince them too hold a multiverse martial arts event, confronting the strongest warriors of the different universes. Despite earning some time for Earth, the agreement had a downside. Since we discovered that the Omni-Kings were planning to destroy any universe who loses in their matches in the tournament. Making many fans were split, as some blamed Goku while others questioned the arc’s stakes.

All of this after Goku approached the Omni-Kings, he was able to convince them to hold a multiverse martial arts event, confronting the strongest warriors of the different universes. Despite earning some time for Earth, the agreement had a downside. Since we discovered that the Omni-Kings were planning to destroy any universe who loses in their matches in the tournament. Making many fans split, as some blamed Goku while others questioned the arc’s stakes.

In the latest episode of “Dragon Ball Super,” the reason behind the Omni-Kings decisions to destroy many universes and host the tournament is revealed. The Great Priest confessed to the universes’ gods that their mortal ranks were too imbalanced, explaining this new reality: The Omni-Kings had given each universe a ranking based on the inhabited worlds’ sophistication.

Sadly, our universe was ranked second last with a score of 38.18. While Universe 9 came out last with a 1.86 score. So in order to restore order and champion more powerful worlds, the Great Priest says the Omni-Kings will destroy the universes who loses their fight.

However, some universes are exempt from this extreme measure, as they have an average mortal rank above 7. Those are universes 1, 5, 8, and 12.So when Goku asked the duo to initiate the tournament, the Omni-Kings felt it was the best way to get rid of the low-ranking universes. As each universe is allowed to choose 10 representatives in the martial arts contest, so the teams are forced to fight for their home’s safety. Also, to make things a bit tenser the Great Priest confirmed the destroyed universes would also have their God of Destruction killed as well. You know just for the sake of it.

The new trailer

Now that you know all about the new arc you’re ready for the trailer, especially since it’s in Japanese.  Shortly after the plot was released a short message from producer Shunki Hashizume was released on “Dragon Ball Super’s” official website. “Dragon Ball Super enters its new chapter, the “Universe Survival Arc”. As you can see from the main visual, it’ll be a full-throttle story where Goku and the rest of the Universe 7 warriors form a team to take on a tournament between universes!”.

As the footage uses some scenes of the previous “sagas” of “Dragon Ball Super,” creating a sort of epic presentation for the characters that will be defending Universe 7 on the “Universal Survival” story arc. Revealing the nine 9 warriors that Goku choose to fight along with him on the Tournament of Power.

In the trailer’s presentation, we see the ones who Goku recruited, making really a dream-team lineup for many. Those are Androids 17 and 18, Gohan, Piccolo, Mr. Buu, Tien, Master Roshi, Krillin, and Vegeta.

Of course, Goku leads them, in a way, showing that the Universe 7’s roster is not one the multiverse should take lightly. The footage goes on to highlight each of the fighters individually with a montage of clips from Dragon Ball Z. Making it obviously way more epic than it already is.

First, Androids 17 and 18 are introduced almost like a tag-team. Then Gohan and Piccolo in a similar fashion. Majin Buu then gets his own slide. Then they show us the trio of Tien, Master Roshi, and Krillin. Then Vegeta is inducted with his own personal slide and, of course saving the best for last, Goku ends the trailer with his own slide. We still don’t know how or who the guys will be fighting on the Tournament of Power. The event will be done in battle royal style, also teams will be allowed to join in order to eliminate rivals. The tournament will be held in a massive arena which houses different activity areas, so there will be fighters who are better for certain challenges than others. This new arc saga promises to be one of the most epic ones, not only of the “Super” series but maybe of the whole Dragon Ball.
