Watch The First Teaser For The Netflix Prequel Of 'The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance'

Jim Henson was one of the greatest creators of the world. As all the creatures that live in his imagination have become loved by all of us. Still, ones that are a little less known from The Dark Crystal are coming back thanks to Netflix. The streaming service has confirmed that they’ll be working along with the Jim Henson company in order to bring us a series about the movie.

But the show won’t pick up where the 1982 movie left. It will be a prequel, and it will be called “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance”. Taking us to a time when the Skeksis and the Mystics were still bitter enemies. Leaving the Gelfling race was caught in the middle. Also and since it’s a series maybe it will be revealing some details we never noticed before about the film.

Gelflings, Skeksis, and Mystics

We all agree that despite the film is supposedly for kids and that its creator is Jim Henson has a very dark and mature vibe. Still the story and character design are one of the best around. Now all the Gelflings, Skeksis and Mystics are making their return in more than 30 years. As the new series will count with 10 episodes and will start filming this fall. So the release date has yet to be announced.

“The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance” will be set many years before “The Dark Crystal’s” storyline takes place. This time “three Gelfling discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power [and] set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world“. According to a press release by Netflix. Still and to arouse us with the nostalgic trip the teaser trailer for the upcoming show features behind the scenes archive footage along with clips of the late Henson talking and reflecting about the film. As he discusses how hard and gratifying the elaboration of “The Dark Crystal” was and calling it one of his best works ever.

Original creatures

For the upcoming series, Netflix and the Jim Henson company got French filmmaker Louis Leterrier from “Now You See Me” and The Brothers Grimsby,” to direct and executive-produce “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance”. Counting as well with Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews from “Life in a Year” and Javier Grillo-Marxuach from “The 100” that will co-write the story for the prequel series, with Leterrier.

Also, they got back with part of the original creature creator Brian Froud. Froud was the mythical drawer and conceptual designer who, along with Henson, created all the creatures of the film. He will also be collaborating with the Company to craft and ensemble the new set of fantastical creatures. Brian Froud also worked as the conceptual designer for Henson’s 1986 movie “Labyrinth,” starring David Bowie. Something good to know since a sequel of Labyrinth is supposedly in work, according to The Jim Henson Company. That will be counting with Guardians of the Galaxy’s co-writer Nicole Perlman.
