US – The popular host of The Tonight Show will be presenting the upcoming event of accolades to film and television shows, the Golden Globes.
The 74th edition of the Golden Globes award will be presented by Jimmy Fallon, as announced by NBC Entertainment Chairman, Robert Greenblatt. It will be the first award show the actor and comedian hosts since his contribution to the Emmy Awards for the NBC in 2010. He has also presided various awards shows for the television network MTV, such as the MTV Video Music Awards in 2002, and the MTV Movie Awards in 2001 and 2005.
“We’re thrilled to announce Jimmy as host of ‘The 74th Annual Golden Globes. This is the most spontaneous and uninhibited award show on television, and Jimmy’s playful, disarming comedic brilliance makes him the ideal host to enhance and elevate the sense of fun and irreverence that’s made the Golden Globes one of the premier events of the entire broadcast year,” commented Robert Greenblatt, as reported by Variety.
The ceremony has previously counted with many comedians and entertainers as their hosts, like Ricky Gervais in 2016 and from 2010 to 2012. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler co-hosted together in the three-years run between 2013 and 2015.
The decision to change hosts from Gervais to Fallon is believed to come from the controversy in the years the English comedian has been at the helm. The press and the audience criticized Gervais’s jokes and marked them as offensive as he “roasted” many of the celebrities inside the event. On the other hand, Fallon is known for his family friendly comedy, with no intentions of being offensive to anyone.
“I’m so excited to be hosting The Golden Globes in January. And I’m really looking forward to spending time with the Hollywood Foreign Press before Donald Trump has them all deported,” said Fallon in a tweet. He is known for his comedy bits involving parodies of presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Since Jay Leno’s departure from The Tonight Show in 2014, Jimmy Fallon has been the main host of the world’s longest- running talk show. He has brought a not only the usual title change and the new set like with every new host, but he has also added Steve Higgins as his co-host, as well as his house band The Roots, just like in his other talk show, Late Night.
