Reddit Bans ‘Alt-Right’ Community And Creates A Lot Of Controversy

Do You Think They Made The Right Choice?

The internet is really a weird place. Since anything is possible on it. One of the windows that let us see those infinite possibilities is Reddit. Reddit’s the home of many things. From memes to weird photos, conspiracy theories, and pretty much the spine of the internet.

Between all those weird things we get vanilla fun to “WTF have I just seen” content. So you might wonder what in the world would be so incorrect that even Reddit has to ban you? Well, it seems that someone has achieved it, and you might not be surprised at all.

Reddit ban’s Alt-Right Comunity.

Well, Reddit is really a place for gathering. As anyone can say and express themselves in the way they want. It doesn’t matter if you’re a unicorn lover or Hitler’s favorite son. So how bad can the Alt-Right Community be to get banned?

The Alt-Right Community is a white-nationalist ideological movement. That has raised their numbers during 2016, due to Trump’s campaign, and seems to have a direct relationship with the actual cabinet in charge of the U.S. Since the White House chief strategist Steve Bannon was the former head of the website Breitbart News.

The “friendly speech.”

If you visited their Reddit page the Alt-Right Community tend to have some selective members, as well as some strong messages. Since they had anti–Semitic and racist conversations. But this wasn’t the reason why they got banned.

Despite not offering any extra information, Reddit has posted the ban by stating “This subreddit was banned due to a violation of our content policy, specifically, the proliferation of personal and confidential information.”

The Reddit users are the best detectives.

Besides having an amazing talent for creating conspiracy theories, the Reddit users have posted a supposed explanation to this mystery. If the rumors are true it seems that the users of Alt-Right were posting a link to a site called WeSearchr, against Reddit’s warnings.

As WeSearchr is a “marketplace for information,” where users can contribute with money to certain “hunts” or “bounties.” Since right now there is a $5.353 “bounty” to identify the person who punched white nationalist Richard Spencer during a protest on Trump’s Inauguration Day. Something that goes against Reddit’s policy of revealing anyone’s personal information.Considering this sharing at WeSearchr a violation of those terms.

The polemic.

This has enraged Alt-Right Community members as well as WeSearchr co-founder Pax Dickinson. Who is an important figure in the Alt-Right Community, as they disagree with Reddit’s decision, stating that the WeSearchr site helps obtained information through this bounties to authorities.

Also, this has worried many Trump supporters and communities on Reddit. As they fear to be banned as well. Since Reddit banned a community back in 2015 that was dedicated to hate fat people. Due to the fact that this “puts in danger the experience and enjoyment of everybody on the page.”
