Never underestimate the power of a hi-vis vest, it could get you in for free.
Because the world is a huge place, and hi-vis vests are your way into almost everywhere. At least that’s the theory Sean Foster and David Allegretti always supported, and have now kinda proved.
David and Sean are part of the Vice staff from Australia.They decided to prove their theory and bought a pair of hi-vis vests and documented it. While wearing the vests they got into different places and proved that effectively vests are powerful things.
Midnight talks lead to adventures.
As David said “The world is a stratified place. Important people get into exclusive places.” Sean and David had always assumed that people wearing hi-vis vests were important since in their hands rested the fixing of something. And one night they decided to give their theory a try and make the world theirs, and make a story of their adventure.
Taking the world by storm.
So they put their plan on track, which consisted of no specific plan, ongoing and headed to Officeworks to buy some fluorescent vests. They completed their facade with fake walkie-talkies and were completely on point. And so, they were ready to try out their theory and document it.

Heading to the movies.
For researching purposes only of course. They decided to hit first a low place, somewhere that was not too difficult. So they headed to the first movie theater they saw, and passed the front desk and were soon enjoying “Office Christmas Party” for free.
Then it was time to step up the game.
After getting into the movies and with the adrenaline rush of illegal activities, the guys wanted to go for something bolder. They decided to go a place more crowded and dangerous. And so they went to the zoo.
The thrill.
The zoo was a bit more challenging for them or so they considered it. They guys played their role and spent 15 minutes smoking in the front of the place. And then, they straight past the front desk to their surprise.
Playing it cool.
Surprisingly for them, everybody thought they were zoo workers since the zoo staff nod back at them, and on many occasions, families asked them for directions or information.
Really smooth.
Not in this one.
After having a good time in the zoo, they kept their field research. This time Sean and David tried to get into this tourist bus. It turned out the bus driver was a tough cookie and didn’t believe them. So they headed to Melbourne in an Uber.
The ultimate proof.
While heading back to the city, Sean learned Coldplay was having a concert that night. And the guys quickly decided to give it a last try to their hi-vis vests. Once in the place, they changed their vests to an orange pair to blend with the personal.
Difficult, but not impossible.
David says that of all places this was the hardest to get inside. They went around different entrances to get in, but they felt definitely more confident. Once inside, because they made it, Sean texted a friend who could give them temporary passes.
Surreal experience.
What a day they had! Even when Coldplay was not David’s favorite band, the music gave a kind of magic soundtrack to the whole experience. The thrill of the day came with a piece of wisdom “All in all, the experience had just proved a fact I always suspected to be true: that you’ll never know if you don’t try. Life is totally permeable in ways you don’t expect” David said.
