Cars are mostly used for utility. Students take practice permit tests from ePermitTest to get their license so they can get from point A to point B. The point of driving is to use the vehicle to get to where you’re going, after all!
But, what if it wasn’t? What if the point of getting in the vehicle was to spend more time in the vehicle?
Sitting in the car in the driveway doesn’t sound like a lot of fun, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t a bunch of car-centered activities that aren’t worth your time!
The truth is, you can have a lot of fun in your car, especially if you live in Texas.
See a Drive-In Movie
Drive-in movies aren’t what they once were. That doesn’t mean they can’t be found!
There are a few drive-in movie theaters in Texas that are worth a visit. Check out the Galaxy Drive-In Movie Theater in Ennis, just outside of Fort Worth. If you’re closer to Houston, try the Showboat Drive-In in Hockley. The Last Drive-In Picture Show is located in Gatesville between Austin and Fort Worth.
Going for a drive-in movie is nostalgic for older moviegoers, but it is a lot of fun for younger moviegoers too. There’s nothing like sitting on the hood of the car watching the big screen outdoors!
Get a Bite to Eat at a Drive-In
Chances are, you drive through and pick up a bite to eat in the car all the time. However, once you’ve gotten your food and you have arrived at your final destination, you probably take your food inside to eat.
What if your car was the restaurant? That’s exactly what it is at a drive-in restaurant!
Unlike a drive-thru where you drive up to a window to get served, at a drive-in, you park your car and are served. Sometimes servers ride roller skates, like old times.
It’s a fun and unique way to enjoy your meal, but it’s also a great place to go for a break. Pull in, order a milkshake, and listen to your favorite tunes before you are expected back at the office.
Do Some Stargazing
The stars can be beautiful in the city, but that’s nothing compared to the way they look out in the country. That means hopping in your car and finding a good spot out in the middle of nowhere to gaze at the stars.
Stargazing is a bit of an art, so there are plenty of tips you can follow to get the most out of your experience. That includes making your car comfortable for the occasion.
Bring along blankets and pillows so you can lay on the hood or the roof of your car and gaze at the stars. Bring plenty of snacks, and make sure you turn on the right tunes while you stare into the cosmos.
Find a Drive-Thru Attraction
Who said you have to get out of the car when you get to your final destination? There are plenty of drive-thru attractions if you know what you’re looking for.
A few ideas include:
- Checking out the animals from the comfort of your car in a drive-thru safari.
- Gaze at holiday lights in a drive-thru light show.
- Check out funky roadside attractions, like the beer can house in Houston and the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Texas.
What if the road was the destination? There are many great road trip routes in the United States, but one of the best goes straight through this state—Route 66.
Do Your Own Carpool Karaoke
You’d have to be living under a rock not to know about James Cordon’s Carpool Karaoke. It has captured the world’s attention because there’s something about watching celebrities do what we like to do in the car—sing!
Why not create your own impromptu carpool karaoke session in the car? Sing along with friends and family to a few of your favorite tunes while you’re heading somewhere else, or simply sit in the driveway, crank up the volume, and record yourself singing at the top of your lungs just for fun!
Your family depends on your car to get to where you are going. It gets you to work and it gets the kids to school, but it turns out, your car can be a lot of fun too! The next time you’re looking for something a little different to do, stay in the car and give one of these memorable ideas a try.
