The success of The Late Late Show’s sketch “Carpool Karaoke” in undeniable. The video series is one of the most expected segments of the show because it features only the greatest musicians in the industry. But there’s something you probably didn’t know and it’s that the sketch started by accident with superstar George Michael.
James explained at his show in June “My original idea was to pick George Michael up from prison in a car, and then we realized, ‘Maybe we’ll lose the prison, but what if there’s still some fun for me and George to be in the car and we’ll sing some Wham! songs?'”. The commotion of Michael’s death has hit everyone by surprise, the musician passed away on December 25.
The purpose of the sketch was to help people like George.
The beloved music icon appeared on the show in 2011 to help James with Britain’s Comic Relief charity. The video lasted only three minutes but it’s just as fun as the rest of them. A great way to remember Michael’s career.
They were spending the day together when Lenny Henry interrupted them.
James and George were pals and they had the whole day planned, but the comedian called James in order to get help with Comic Relief, Corden is a good man so he agreed on giving them a hand.
George called James a homophobic.
They were close, you can see they even had matching outfits, but when Michael asked James if he could go with him to the charity but he said no, and George accused him of not wanting him to go because he didn’t want to be seen with a gay man.
James said Michael was a joke.
The reason he didn’t want the musician to go with him was because he was a joke and the charity was for helping people like him. George was sad, but James managed to cheer him up with a song.
The meeting turned out great.
James drove to the BBC Studios to help with Comic Relief, even Justin Bieber was there. After the meeting, the two friends continued their day together and jammed along to George’s greatest hits. There were the usual singing and dancing, James has the power to make everyone smile and this time is special because that’s how we will remind the greatness of George.
