Dirty Dancing was, and still is, one of the most iconic movies of all times. Not only it became a pop icon during the 80’s. It also renovated musical movies. Now 30 years after the famous movie become part a cultural phenomenon a reboot is happening.
Since ABC is remaking a three-hour movie, this time for TV, and turning it into an event.
The remade trailer
The new version of the 80’s movie has many people waiting, and not necessarily for the right reasons. Since the upcoming remake has got mixed reviews. Many have found that the 30 seconds clip really manages poorly the film’s footage and doesn’t promise anything new. So what’s the need to watch it or even make a reboot?
For others, it’s a wonderful opportunity to watch again a classic film in an updated version. Also making all the parents introduce to younger generations one of their favorite movies, so be prepared for your mom and dads excitement.
New dancers
We don’t know if the movie will have any difference regarding the story, it will surely have new actors on it. As the new ABC version counts with a very good cast. Including the likes of Abigail Breslin as Baby Houseman, who falls in love with the dancing bad boy Johnny Castle, who will be played by newcomer Colt Prattes. Even though many complain that he doesn’t count with the great physic of Patrick Swayze and the chemistry he shared with Jennifer Grey.
Also, the film costars will be Debra Messing and Bruce Greenwood as Marjorie and Dr. Jake Houseman respectively, Nicole Scherzinger as Penny Rivera, Sara Hyland as Lisa Houseman, Tony Roberts as Max Kellerman, Katey Sagal as Vivian Pressman, Billy Dee Williams as Tito and J. Quinton Johnson as Marco.
Promises for the movie
Despite the doubt and skepticism of many, the movie does promise to go deeper in the story. Showing the character’s progression, including what happens to Baby and Johnny after the summer, Baby parents’ relationship, and Lisa’s life goals. While also taking on important social topics, like race and women’s rights.
Along with all of that, the new version will also feature updated versions of the original soundtrack. Including many fan-favorite songs like the iconic “Time of My Life,” along with “Love Man,” “Do You Love Me,” “Hungry Eyes” and “She’s Like the Wind”. Also, including the classic scenes and phrases like “Nobody puts Baby in the corner”. The movie will premiere on May 24th at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
