Calvin Klein Delivered A Strong Message At This Year’s Fashion Week

What A Good Platform To Discuss These Topics

Raf Simons made his  Calvin Klein’s debut at The New York Fashion Week 2017 by bringing the fashion set to the brand’s corporate offices in Midtown for the much-anticipated show.

the show has given a lot to talk about, as Simon wrote in the show notes, “it reflects the environment,” with the help of David Bowie’s infamous song “This is Not America,” the designer made a pointed message.

The Collection

“Parade” is the name of this remarkable collection that has been a tribute to America, it was full of sturdy denim and patchworked coats, shrink-wrapped feather glamour dresses that encased the models in plastic as if they were shiny toys, also there were sharp power broker tailorings and remixed band uniforms, to what Simons referred by saying “It is the coming together of different characters and different individuals, just like America itself.”

Use Your Voice.

It seems like everyone it’s using its voice, no matter how big it might be, to make statements in all possible ways, as we saw at the Super Bowl advertisings. Now fashion designers are raising their voice as well.

These were the words Simons said backstage just last week at his own label’s menswear show, “when you have a voice, you should use it”.

The Front Row

Guests like Gwyneth Paltrow, Julianne Moore, Sarah Jessica Parker, Naomie Harris, Kate Bosworth, Greta Gerwig, Brooke Shields and director Sofia Coppola, definitely got the message and felt related to it by embracing the message that Simons wanted to put across by using this platform. He even sent patterned bandanas with a note saying: “Unity, inclusion, hope and acceptance: Join us at Calvin Klein in wearing the white bandanna. #tiedtogether.”

The music and the clothes made the supermodel Lauren Hutton, who praised both the show’s contents and its messaging, say ”he’s a new miracle”. Also, Diane von Furstenberg who was among the front-row guests wore a large button that said: “Fashion starts with Planned Parenthood” and she added that ” It was not about politics, it was about women’s rights, about the body, and about human rights.”
