A Man Who Worked On The Rugrats Show How’d They Look Now

During our childhood, there are always things that mark us. That is so that our whole generation remembers those kinds of things. Simple things like a specific candy, kind of clothes, toys or TV shows.

Maybe that is what people mean with “the good old days.” Despite the fact that nostalgia always seems everything looks better than what it is. There were some good TV shows in the 90s, that some “grown-ups” of today would remember tenderly. One of those is “The Rugrats” who saw incredible adventures of a group of toddlers.

Internet conspiracies.

The show aired from 1991 to 2006 many have wondered how the characters from Rugrats would look like today. Since we first met them in their baby years. Logically the internet has proposed with a variety of answers of all kind. In the speculation, it has been said that Chuckie would be a classical hipster, Tommy a photographer, Dil a junkie, etc. Yet one man’s interpretation carried more weight than the other, and he has now gifted us with his offering.

Voice of reason.

Eric Molinsky, a storyboard artist between 1999 and 2002 for Klasky Csupo, the animation company responsible for The Rugrats; among many other cartoons.  He has finally spoken,  trying to finalize the debate of how the characters would have aged.

The final word.

Molinsky explained: “It really bugs me — not the quality of the artwork, but the interpretation. We referred to them as lumpy babies for a reason. If we ever drew the Rugrats as being too cute, our executive producer would scold us. We were supposed to emulate the style of Eastern European animators — many of whom were brought over, with their sly wit and husky voices (they took a lot of smoke breaks.)”

Authentic look.

Then Molinsky drew what he recognizes as the real aging of the characters. As he said: “they’re not models or hipsters, but ordinary, lumpy looking people. Even Angelica, the brat of the group, couldn’t argue with that.”
