Cameron Diaz took the mic at the ‘Goop Wellness Summit’, in California on Saturday, to explain where she had been for the past few years.
Not only she’s one of the most popular actresses in Hollywood. She’s also one of the highest-paid ones. And still, she managed to flee from Hollywood. Last time we saw her was in the 2014 musical ‘Annie’ – a role that earned her a nomination for Worst Supporting Actress at the Golden Raspberry Awards. Where has she been ever since?
Diaz opened up to fellow actress Gwyneth Paltrow at her wellness summit. Explaining that traveling non-stop from set to set for over two decades was too much. “I just went, ‘I can’t really say who I am to myself.’ Which is a hard thing to face up to,” she said. “I felt the need to make myself whole.”
That being said, she didn’t mention any new projects, so we can assume she’s not planning on stepping back to Hollywood anytime soon.
Joining Diaz on the panel there were Tory Burch, Miranda Kerr, and her sister-in-law Nicole Richie, who is married to Diaz’s husband Benji Madden’s brother, Joel. Paltrow served as the moderator.
Cameron Diaz explained why she waited so long to get married
When the summit was coming to an end, Paltrow asked her celebrity friends about their relationships. “Cameron, you got married later,” she said. “What was it that kept you from getting married until you were 40?”
“Forty-one!” Diaz corrected her. “I think it’s a matter of I just hadn’t met my husband, you know? I had boyfriends before. And there’s a really, really distinct difference between husbands and boyfriends. And I have a husband who is just my partner in life and in everything.”
She then proceeded to talk about how different they are from each other, but are brought together by the same values. She explained how her husband has always supported and encouraged her and has shown her how a relationship feels like when a woman is actually treated as an equal.
The former ‘Charlie’s Angels’ star and the singer of Good Charlotte met in 2014 at a dinner party at her house. Diaz invited Richie and her husband Joel, who brought his brother with him. In a previous interview with Andy Cohen, she confessed that the first thing she said when she saw Benji was “He’s hot.”
They started dating and got married in January 2015 in a private ceremony at their home.
What an unexpected couple, right? Diaz thinks the same. “We’re both just weird enough for each other,” she said at the summit. “He’s my perfect little weirdo and I’m his perfect little weirdo.”
