Chris Pratt covers the June issue of Cigar Aficionado. In an interview for the issue, he explained why he turns down fan photo opportunities and trades them for handshakes.
The actor also opened up about how his recent megastardom has changed his life and his diva habits.
Living in the moment
The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star covers the June issue of the magazine Cigar Aficionado along with the movie’s director James Gunn.
As the star and director of the movie promote their blockbuster they sat and chat with the magazine and we learned that if we ever see Chris on the street, we shouldn’t ask him a selfie. The Parks and Recreation star is known for enjoying interacting with his fans, so why wouldn’t he turn down a fan photo opportunity?
Here’s why and let me tell ya is quite reasonable even when we might not like it.
He said, “I’ve always been a pretty deferential, go-with-the-flow guy. But now I have to be economical with my time, if I go out and want to do normal things, I have to be comfortable disappointing people. So I just don’t take pictures with people. Because that’s not about enjoying the moment; it’s about stealing the moment to brag about later.”
So, he’s doing it for moral reasons somehow. But wait a sec. Chris also said that when’s he’s asked to take a picture he responds, “‘Would you settle for a handshake?’ And then they take the picture anyway.”
So, there’s a handshake possibility.
Stardom and his life.
So, Chris had last year quite a year since he became a movie star and he opened up abut it.
He said that some of his diva-ish behavior include smoking an occasional cigar on set.
He said, “The Brits are so polite. There I am, smoking these little cigars on the set and it is, in fact, illegal. But they were so reluctant to finally say, ‘I’m very sorry, but I’m afraid it’s against the law.’ And I said, ‘No, no, that’s cool — just tell me when the cops come.’ “
Then he added, “Hey, I show up on time, I know my stuff. It’s like, my one diva thing.”
He also spoke about meeting his peers now he’s a movie star. “There was this moment when I was at a party and Barbra Streisand and Jim Carrey both came up to me to tell me they loved what I’d done.
Then, he added “Streisand asked me, ‘How does it feel? You’re this year’s big thing. Jim Carrey told me the same thing. That was when those people stopped being my icons and became my peers.”
